Conan O'Brien Leaving (AKA Fuck NBC)

Excellent last episode. Not happy it's the last, but content with it. It's weird to see something go away that has been a part of my entire adult life.

Oh man, when he almost teared up *I* almost teared up.

I'm sure I'm still not gay, but even I have to admit that Conan without a tie and rocking out with a guitar was hawt.

Yeah, there goes the only reason I've ever watched late night TV. Conan's been around since I've been a child and has always been my favorite.

I couldn't watch the last bit with Freebird. I can't listen to that song without crying.

Oh man... Conan held himself together except for one split second when he almost lost composure.

That one second was all it took.

But then cowbell made it all better.

Does anyone know who everyone in the band was? The two guys from ZZ top were easy to recognize, it almost looked like Billy Joel on piano, but they never really gave a clear shot of him. The rest looked vaguely familiar, but never showed a clear enough shot for me to recognize them.

Let me see... Ben Harper, Elvis Costello, Beck and Billy Gibbons were playing with the Max Weinberg 7.
And that last episode was television at its best.

I didn't see Costello. :O
Watching again, I got confused. It was Jimmy Vivino. Same glasses.
I made the same mistake when I watched it at broadcast. I thought he was Elvis Costello until they showed him again and realized it was Jimmy from the tonight show band.

I wonder if his deal would prevent him from doing free content for places like Funny or Die or Youtube. It would be a good way to keep people interested, and show what he can do if he's given the freedom to be himself.

I'd imagine he could do web content so long as it wasn't for any network or anything. I'd love to see something like Conan doing the show out of his basement as if nothing had really changed.

I just really wonder about the intellectual property issue. I'm sure he'll be fine if he does end up having to give it up, but that's still just rubbing salt in the wound. What they fuck is NBC going to do with the rights to Conando?

Use it to sell the complete half season of the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien on DVD&Blu Ray.
There is never really gonna be DVD sets of Late Night full episodes. They're way too dated. Even after a couple of months. Although NBC might get away with it to try and capitalize on this "Team Conan" stuff that will fizzle out well before he's back on the air anywhere.

I hope he develops a prime time comedy. I want to see him around more, but I don't think Fox will be a good match. 10:30 E/9:30 C will not have the drawing power that will pay Conan's salary. The affiliates will continue making a ton of money off reruns of The Simpson's or Cops.

There's a torrent on Demonoid that has every episode of the Tonight Show Conan has done.

It weighs in at 60 gigabytes.

I can tell you right now, off the bat, that I watched every single episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien that was ever aired. Not produced cause they scrapped most of the concussion episode (and, come to think of it, Teri Hatcher never went back!!), but every single one they aired, no exception.

The internet rules.

Too bad internet views don't count towards ratings, which is all that counts.
This is the problem with the Nelson system. It doesn't take into account Hulu views, DVR recordings, or people torrenting shows... as well as being disproportionally adjusted towards white, middle class families.

The networks don't make much off of internet views though. Companies aren't going to want to buy tv ads for a show that no one watches on tv.

The Neilsen ratings are good for measuring how many people watch the show live, with the ads that support television. They couldn't and shouldn't and will never give two fucks how popular it is on torrents, since the people watching on torrents DON'T FUCKING MAKE THEM A DIME.
