They have started collecting the data but nobody makes use of or knows how to make use of it yet. Remember that was the big "reason" behind the writer's strike; they were afraid once somebody did figure out 'new media' and how to apply it, the writers would be left out.

Too bad internet views don't count towards ratings, which is all that counts.
Well, there's no legal way to watch Conan down here. We get Letterman on a weird cable channel that calls itself "American Network", but no Conan. Or Leno. Or Ferguson. Or Kimmel. Or Fallon. So what am I stealing? I actually promoted the shit out of Conan's show to my 544 twitter followers, that should get me free viewings, dammit.

I didn't say you were stealing. It's just one of the big problems for shows targeting younger audiences. So many prefer to watch online through various means, or DVR it and skip commercials. This means that advertisers aren't as interested in supporting the show, and it gets axed.

I just really wonder about the intellectual property issue. I'm sure he'll be fine if he does end up having to give it up, but that's still just rubbing salt in the wound. What they fuck is NBC going to do with the rights to Conando?
For every act that NBC let him do, he's got 500 more that he's been mulling over in his mind. Every comedian has a bunch of material they are thinking about, and in fact what you see may not be their best material. It's usually not their favorite, either.

So wherever he goes, he'll have new, good material. I suspect part of the reason NBC made him give up the rights is that that they'll have exclusive, full, and clear rights to the material already recorded, and they won't have to worry about him or his assignees suing them for redistributing and profiting off the material later. It's a standard transfer of ownership.

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. You don't turn down golden opportunities like that, no matter who's on the receiving end, dude. If my own mother set herself up so beautifully I'd have no choice but to unleash the pwnation on the very woman who birthed me.

Y'know?

Mama Callaballawalla must be so proud... :p

I don't get it... suddenly from everywhere I hear about Conan's twitter account and it's even a verified account and everything... but how the hell did he announce it? Verify it even? Is there something I'm missing?

This is a great question, Calleja. Does anyone have the answer?

This is probably the single greatest tweet I have had the privilege to have show on my time line. Its awesome simplicity and flawless execution give it an instant favorite.

If you can't see the picture over at twitpic click on "view full size". The guy didn't even have to show his face! Gold.

Is anybody else imagining all of Conan's writers, now out of work, are bunking up in his house like some kind of wacky situation comedy? I can imagine them all debating what to do for breakfast:

"He should definitely eat cereal."
"Cereal hasn't been funny since the 80's. He needs IHOP."
"Oh! And then he can get Belgian waffles and do jokes about Jean Claude Van Dam!"
"Van Dam Jokes? He hasn't done a movie in years!"
"Whatever we're gonna make him eat, we'd better do it fast. He needs to go pick up his unemployment check today. It's going to be GOLD!"

And in the background Conan's eating cereal, looking really bored.

When his show went to the earlier format didn't it do well the first couple of show? Then ratings slid downhill. There was so much hype around NBC screwing over Conan I'm sure a lot of people watched just to say they watched. Give him a few weeks and lets see where his ratings are. Hopefully Fox will pick up Conan and let him go head to head with Leno. I couldn't imagine Leno beating Conan for the young male demographic.
