Only a black screen and the mouse cursor

I am at my sister laptop.

I was at my computer installing Neru, than it sundely the BSoD showed saying that it had a memory error or something and it rebooted... except that it only shows a black screen and the mouse cursor now.

I tried to reboot again few times, but to no use

When you try to reboot how deep into the boot do you get?

And do you have a boot CD?

Well, it asks me how I want to restart it because it wasn't properly started. Either choice between safe or regular causes it to reach a black screen where the mouse cursor arrow is show and can be moved, but nothing happens =|

what is a boot CD? I have a Vista and a motherboard one

There is an option on the Vista install disc to repair boot. If you can't find it, I'll load mine up later and give specific instructions.

is there a "go into system restore" option?

You could roll the laptop back before you installed the software.

when the HD activity stops after boot, can you hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up the task manager, and from there launch explorer.exe?

Thanks for your help, but I took it for techsupport

they said it will take five days tops, still I have to wait till monday at least
