I'm not sure how to feel about this one. They were actively trying to find stuff to charge this guy with and couldn't. I'm not saying that nothing happened, but it might not have been rape. Still, she immediately went to the hospital and police so I think that gives her credibility.

Man, without proof it's tough to say he did anything as it's all conjecture.

I believe this is a case of both of them being really, really, really fucking wasted. I'm guess sexual things did go on, but based on the evidence, they didn't gather enough stuff to claim anything. The girl retracted her lawsuit. Moral of the story is Ben needs to stop being a drunken idiot. Do I really think he's a rapist? No. But he really needs to learn to control his partying and who he hangs out with.

I believe his first accusation back in November, however, was all just a money making attempt. But again, Rothlisburger really needs just stop hanging out with bar skanks.

He seems to be a great player, and a complete douche.

Actually he's a really good guy too. He does a lot of community stuff around Pittsburgh, fundraising, etc... His problem is that he likes to party. And this is the sort of shit you can get tangled with when you party with shady people all the time. He's fallen into that time old trap of sports athletes thinking they can get by like movie celebrities.

I really wish the NFL was like the NHL in terms of keeping their players on a leash. You don't see as many NHL guys doing shit like this because they know the NHL doesn't tolerate it and will fire their ass. I've always hated how the NFL is composed of 50% convicts.

She retracted her lawsuit but it looks like she did so because (1) she got $$ and (2) she knew that without more evidence the only thing that would happen would be a media circus with her in the middle being dragged through the mud. Seriously I think something may have happened but she knows what the lawyers and press would do to her on a personal level, which is too bad.

A lot of they athletes do the "good guy" gestures because to the NFL contracts with the United Way. Reggie Jackson talked a good game, but he was just good at acting like he was a decent human being.

Big Ben is a skeeve. He is a high priced athlete out getting underaged girls SMASHED in college bars.

I wonder if the girl knew who the hell he was. He is not exactly poster boy material.

It's not his fault she was not 21. They met in a bar so it's a reasonable assumption that she's of age. In fact, she was the one who should not have been there. That doesn't excuse what may have happened, but he can not be blamed for her age.

On the one hand, he hasn't been charged, on the other, it's bad to discount rape allegations as money-grubbing or girls just trying to get famous or girls regretting what they did the night before when they were drunk.

It is also regrettable when gold diggers yell rape.
Yes, especially when terrible people use that to discount actual rapes.
True, which is why we have to be careful not to project either way or muddy our thinking based on our own innate prejudging whether pro- or anti-"victim". And I put victim in quotes merely because sometimes they are not. I would say that number is fairly low but I know of a few instances personally where the girl lied either for money or attention. Again, no proof whether this happened to Ben or if he did something, but we can't assume either way.

Well, I think that has a lot more to do with the fact that hockey players generally grew up pretty well off, while football players not so much.

Doesn't work for statutory rape, I don't believe, being in a place and doing things that require a certain age. But still the man is 28 still chilling at/and picking up girls at a college bar.

But what if they've gone through tough situations and are very mature for their age?

I don't know enough about the situation to say much about it other than it's disappointing to hear about in general.

I suppose that if they are one of the most mature people you know then it's okay.

But only if you had been their babysitter and known her for years. Picking her up in a bar is still illegal.

Just as Ben was going in to meet with the commissioner, WPXI in Pittsburgh was reporting on a 2nd Vegas incident. That makes for 3 in total... so far.

The general feeling around here is that off the field, Ben is a complete douche. He's even at war with Terry Bradshaw.

It doesn't matter whether he's been charged or not for either the Steelers or the league to act. His pattern of behavior is grounds enough. He has put himself in situations that tend to put the team and the league in a bad light. The Steelers and the NFL are private entities, and Ben is merely an employee of those entities. A very high-profile and well-paid employee, but just an employee. That gives them a lot of leeway to respond, no matter what has or has not happened with the police or prosecutor.

What's wrong with a 28 year old picking up bar skanks (in the sense that she's old enough not the whole sexual assault thing)? This wasn't a case of statutory rape. The girl was 20.

Ah Christ, well this coupled with losing Holmes will make for a shitty season.

There were rumors amongst Steeler fans on Twitter last night that he might be traded to the Rams. The Rooneys are *that* pissed.
