From the cranial cavity of the man himself.

I'm coming to you next year with a plan, and it's multilayered. The first is ‑‑ and I started working on this in August. A 100‑year plan for America. This country was destroyed, and it began 100 years ago with the progressive movement. We weren't destroyed overnight. We were destroyed piece by piece.
Tell me that this is a parody. Please, for the love of Odin, somebody tell me that this is a parody.

Yes, the conservative movement has worked long and hard to make us the backwards land that we were before WWI. And they damned near succeeded.

Fucking progressives, with their trying to keep food safe, opening public libraries for free, and outlawing child labor!

Beck is a moron.

Fucking progressives, with their trying to indoctrinate schoolchildren into collectivism, subordinating the American economy to the eco-fad of the moment, and punishing achievement through confiscatory wealth redistribution!
FTFY.

And the progressive movement has worked long and hard to turn us into the imploding suckhole that Greece has beat us to, and they've damn near succeeded.

Glenn Beck doesn't have all the answers, no, but he's not the frothing fascist psychopath lefties constantly shriek that he is.

I fail to see how Beck's potential fascist psychopathy is relevant in the face of his far more obvious raving dementia. Gas, the man casts himself as America's saviour with a hundred-year plan, whilst coming up with such pithy summations as this:

We must invite Republicans and Democrats who like freedom and small government. We must invite them into a plan that makes sense! That encourages sustainability. We must get them into ‑‑ you know the saying, into the tent. But see, the tent doesn't mean anything anymore. What is the purpose of a tent? A tent is to keep the elements away, to keep you safe in case of a rainstorm. But see, we don't have a tent anymore with these two parties. There is no tent. Show me the tent. "Well, we agree on blah, blah‑blah." There can't be a tent. Because a tent requires stakes. A tent requires some sort of stake to hold it down to the ground. Well, what are those stakes? They're principles and they're values.
Gods, it's like a strawman from Penny Arcade on one of Tycho's off-days. You do realise that it's entirely possible to advocate addressing the very real structural flaws in the American political system without pausing to defend the views of the cracked-out homeless guy rambling about the 'gub'mint' across the street, right?

Beck is a dumbass.
Because you, I, the rest of this forum, and certainly every other person on or off TV has NEVER left a letter out of a word before. That's just evidence of absolute deranged lunacy, right there.

Yes, because intentionally belaboring the imagery of a metaphor somebody else invented is clear evidence of insanity.

Strawman. I said he was a dumbass, not a deranged lunatic.

And if I were going to be spelling oligarChy on tv in front of millions, you'd think I wouldn't fly by the seat of my pants like I do in posts here. He rehearsed that little speech, over and over, and neither he, nor his entire TEAM that helps him put the show together noticed the screw up. Hes' a dumbass. And yes, I think the mistake says volumes about how much due diligence he puts into the garbage he promotes on his show.

Actually, I didn't get any of that from Glenn Beck, and you're still just frothing at the mouth.

It's also not crazy.

"In our dreams…people yield themselves with perfect docility to our molding hands. The present educational conventions [intellectual and character education] fade from our minds, and unhampered by tradition we work our own good will upon a grateful and responsive folk. We shall not try to make these people or any of their children into philosophers or men of learning or men of science. We have not to raise up from among them authors, educators, poets or men of letters. We shall not search for embryo great artists, painters, musicians, nor lawyers, doctors, preachers, politicians, statesmen, of whom we have ample supply. The task we set before ourselves is very simple… we will organize children… and teach them to do in a perfect way the things their fathers and mothers are doing in an imperfect way." - John D. Rockefeller General Educational Board (1906), which designed much of what was to become the norm for Public School in the US.

The other two speak for themselves.

Other great Education quotes -

As we all learned from the sorry experience of state-sanctioned bureaucracies in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, decentralization [in education] is crucial to both freedom and excellence. ~ Jerry Brown

I don't want my children fed or clothed by the state, but if I had to choose, I would prefer that to their being educated by the state. ~ Max Victor Belz

Education should be exercise; it has become massage. ~Martin H. Fischer

The more subsidized it is, the less free it is. What is known as "free education" is the least free of all, for it is a state-owned institution; it is socialized education - just like socialized medicine or the socialized post office - and cannot possibly be separated from political control. ~ Frank Chodorov

I claim for the nation an education that depends only on the State, because children of the State must be raised by members of the State. ~ Louis-René de Caradeuc de La Chalotais

I've come to believe that genius is an exceedingly common human quality, probably natural to most of us... I began to wonder, reluctantly, whether it was possible that being in school itself was what was dumbing them down. Was it possible I had been hired not to enlarge children's power, but to diminish it? That seemed crazy on the face of it, but slowly I began to realize that the bells and the confinement, the crazy sequences, the age-segregation, the lack of privacy, the constant surveillance, and all the rest of national curriculum of schooling were designed exactly as if someone had set out to *prevent* children from learning how to think and act, to coax them into addiction and dependent behavior. – John Taylor Gatto, New York City "Teacher of the Year," 1990

......yes....because America was a great place before.....

Sorry but that's just so much "grass is always greener" bullshit.

Pre-1960: Massive institutionalized Racism and Sexism
Pre-1950ish: Massive pollitical corruption
Pre-1940ish: Massive isolationist foreign policy (except our awesome manuevers in south america.)
Pre-1930: Massive Poverty
Pre-1900: Little religious freedom
Pre-1900: Government led ethnic cleansiings of the indian nations
Pre-1880ish: ....slavery....

I'm sorry, could someone please point to me where things were better than they are now? And I'm not talking about ideology or any of that nonsense. When was it ACTUALLY better?

Edit: ok....mid to late 90s. That's it.

Better is a hugely subjective term so its kinda moot, I mean there has to be at least a million factors, inc social, economic, environmental, science, etc etc.

I doubt one time period can ever really be better than another.

seriously?

Please explain to me how the government ran the country better in any time period than it does now. And remember, I'm not just talking about better for a white man. I'm talking better for a citizen.

I take the Jimmy James platform.

Jimmy: You know what's wrong with this country? Absolutely nothing.
Bill: Your complicated thesis intrigues me. Tell me more.

I don't get your question, I never stated that things were better, merely that using the word better is silly because there are so many factors that simply makes it a hugely subjective term and opinion.

Ok. Lets put it this way.

You have a time machine, but its one way.

Would you use it to go back in time in America and live there?

That ain't subjective.

I am still pretty sure that is subjective, tons of people want to visit different times in history.

Glen Beck is a walking example of how Godwin's law effectively demonstrates when someone has absolutely nothing but mindless, invalid pathos on their side.

Hey guys, would you like to buy some seeds to protect you from the fascism-induced fall of society?

Honestly I don't think there is any intentional racism or anything, but I think some people have an incredibly myopic view of the world

Ok, the problem with Glenn Becks arguments isn't that he uses straw men arguments so much (though he does), it's that his own supposed facts don't support his conclusions. He makes correlations which do not properly lead to his suppositions, always tuned to support his own ideology. Which, of course, isn't any different than almost any of the pundits on the cable television shows. What makes Beck stand out from the crowd is the theatrics.

Hell Yes. With my knowledge of the future and "advanced" future technology that I would bring with me I would become the most famous, powerful person in the world.

And that's why I don't read his stupid Halforums blog.

which implies that I would read it otherwise....but that's not true :( just wanted to clear that up.
