It's out. Here's what we have.

The ones that were leaked, that's actually what they look like.

Multitasking, yes.

2 cameras (one on each side). Interesting. Wonder what that will do.....

Flash. The bright thing. Not the fun thing.

High resolution screen. Supposedly the highest ever. Not bad.

Can record movies, and edit them locally. Nice

Tap to focus on movies while recording them. Interesting.

Video Texting. Ok, now you're finally getting it Apple.



I may actually upgrade with this one. I'll give it 6 months or so for them to work the garbage out of it.

I didn't have time to read every blog post about it. Was there any mention of the new hardware coming to ipod touch?

I remember when this game was the most advanced game on a phone, and that was less than TEN years ago! In black and white no less!

Unfortunately I have to wait until next year to upgrade. At least I'll get iOS 4. Multitasking, and the unified inbox should be great. I can't wait for the 21st.

I haven't spent more than $20 for a cell phone. I don't know how you folks do it. I see the fancy-pants phones and I see the 'free' one I get when I re-up, and I just can't bring myself to lay down more than $50 for a new one.

Seems a bit... underwhelming to be honest. Especially considering the Iphone here has the worst telecom provider of our nation. T-Mobile can't keep up with the use, so if you're unlucky you can't even call or be called in certain places/times.

Looks amazing though, I gotta hand that to Apple.

Awesome, getting it... And here in Sweden we have plenty of good carriers to choose from, with support for the full HSDPA speed almost everywhere. Too bad it doesn't have a 4G radio though.

the whole 720P HD video thing is kind of ??? to me, because I don't care what label you put on it, the only thing that will be high def about it is the poor image quality that you get from a lens that small. Not that I expect a great image, but I couldn't care less if it was 720P or not.

I really like the idea of the integrated antenae too, basically the aluminum casing around the sides of it is 2 antenaes.

if apple is going to compete against Droid (which is a sweet phone. I have iphone 3G) Apple has to open up to other carrier like Sprint and Verizon. If they keep with AT&T they are going to lose.

Also.. they're about to sell their 100th million iOS unit (that includes iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad... but guess what's the most numerous) so I don't think they're too worried.

Yeah, they really won't. BUT: They should break free and let other carriers have it. The main reason I haven't is because of AT&T.

Here in the States we have this backwards, convoluted system called CDMA that Sprint and Verizon use. The only other place it's used is in South Korea. The rest of the world (And AT&T and T-Mobile) use GSM, with the swappable SIM cards. CDMA phones are hard-coded to one carrier or another, and the technologies are incompatible.

Here's hoping that when Verizon rolls out LTE (their variant of 4G) things will change. AT&T is looking to go with LTE, and Sprint hasn't completely ruled it out either, despite their investment in WiMax 4G. The nice thing about LTE is that it can be used for both data and voice, so the whole "surf and talk at the same time" line that AT&T has going for it won't apply anymore.

iPhone = AT&T exclusive, sorry.
Only two carriers in USA that use GSM are AT&T and T-Mobile.
Price of no contract unit (not unlocked, just no contract) = $599/$699 for 16/32

Yeah, sorry about that. iPhones here are GSM, too, on AT&T. And their radios don't work on the same GSM frequencies as T-Mobile USA - though they do work on T-Mobile in Germany, go figure.

Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, and Alltel are CDMA. AT&T and T-Mobile are GSM. Others I've not had personal experience with (and am too lazy to look up).

Basically, if you want an iPhone in the US, you're stuck with AT&T, one of the crappiest providers here.

The iPhone is quad-band GSM, so it will work with T-Mobile (after unlocking or if you buy without contract). It won't work on T-Mobile's 3G network (AT&T 3G is 850MHz, T-Mobile 3G is 1700MHz).

Same. I shelled out 50 bucks for my Blackberry Storm. It works.

Wait, so CDMA is more prevalent in the states than GSM? I thought that it was the other way around.

CDMA is more prevalent in terms of area coverage. Verizon currently has the largest network coverage area in the USA, after the acquisition and merging of the Altell and Verizon networks.

ars says it's a minor issue, that most people won't have a problem with it. You have to be holding it tight and unnaturally. Also a protective case completely eliminates the problem.

The battery does get very warm very fast though. Not ouch hot yet.

I'm more concerned that the back is also made of glass and is apparently easy to break inadvertently. One of the Gizmodo editors broke his when he dropped it from knee-height by accident.

Obviously, you want to put a case on it, but supposedly it's Apple's most delicate phone yet.

I view it like say, an F1 MClaren.The F1 MClaren is a nice car. It's very good, and is made to look that way. but don't crash it. Also, you can't hold the steering wheel with your left hand. Or use anything but the F1 MClaren approved gasoline.
