Sounds good man.

So I took the dungeon LFG tool out for a spin last night, deciding to sign up as a tank for Deadmines and later Blackfathom Deeps. Holy cow, that thing works fast! I hardly had time to go repair after beginning my dungeon search before the game was telling me that my group was ready. I think this ease of finding groups is something I'm going to really like.
It works fast because you were a tank. Do the same thing as a DPS and watch how long it takes.

Yup. Tanking is one of those jobs few people like to do, so they already are in high demand for the dungeon queue. Healers come a close second with a slight wait. DPS is a dime a dozen, so you have to wait longer with DPS and it gets worst during certain level ranges. Really, if you plan to level through the dungeon tool, be a tank or healer, it would be good practice anyways if you ever decided to take one of those roles later.

On Tichondrius at the end game, I have a ten second wait on my tanking classes, a two minute wait on my healer classes, and a fifteen minute wait on all my DPS.

I...I kinda like the tanking thing. This is the first time I've really given it a whirl but I think I could do this. Granted, I need some practice but that will come with time. I've found a some paladin blogs and a couple that deal with prot specifically that have had some interesting things. Now if only I could get a group where the warlock didn't insist on running ahead of me and grabbing aggro on everything. >_<

If a DPS is not grouped with a healer, and he is being retarded /whisper the healer and tell him to let the DPS die. Sometimes dying a few times calms them down. :p

As a rogue I learned quickly to let the tank build up aggro. Otherwise our initial burst damage made the monsters go, "Hmmm. THIS guy looks tasty!"

Tell the healer not to heal him and let him die. He will learn.
This is even easier when the healer so happens to be your wife. :D

Just a week or so ago, I ran an Underbog PuG without my wife as my healer. We killed the last boss and some tanking shoulders dropped (we are talking stamina and defense, with very little strength) and the Death Knight in the group rolled need and took them, even though they were an upgrade to my existing tank shoulders. The rest of the group and I told him he should allow the person that would get the most use out of the shoulders to have them since he got all the loot prior to the last boss and his original shoulders were better for DPS anyways, but he instead dropped group.

An hour later my wife was finally home and we both decided to queue for a dungeon. We got Crypts and that same Death Knight appeared as one of the DPS. I knew it was going to be time to have a little fun, so I told my wife not to buff him or heal him, and I stood around for a minute. He grew impatient so I told him "Well you got some nice tanking shoulders, go tank." and so he did, and died. My wife refused to ress him, and when asked why, she said "because I am with the tank, we don't like ninjas". He was forced to run back, my wife and I laughing.

The rest of the time he stood behind, making sure not to get aggro since I was not pulling off him and my wife was not healing him. Once we got to the first boss I decided I was not going to let him has a chance to get some loot, so I initiated a vote kick and he was gone when all of us voted him out.

Yes, I can be vindictive sometimes. I don't like people taking loot they don't need over someone that does need it, whether it is me getting the shaft or someone else. I literally stopped a group once to make a druid give a staff to a priest because he already had the heirloom staff.

I have a very interesting and most of the times detrimental habit of not hitting need even though I should. I always feel bad when I hit need.

I have a rule.

Need if you need.
Greed if you don't.
If you need and someone gets upset about it when you win, talk to them, compare what you have have with what he has, and then either keep the item or give it to him since he needed it more.

In the end, just be fair. Don't take something obviously designed for another role, unless the person(s) fulfilling that role don't need it and pass/greed it. No one will bite at you unless you, for instance, steal tanking gear from a tank, healing trinkets from a healer, etc... I once had a Mage take this from a healer in a PuG, and that is just not cool. Just be aware, be fair, and have fun.

Soon enough I'll catch up enough to run with you. Then it'll just be me grabbing aggro on everything, and it will be totally within character. :)

That'll be fun. I've been reading some of the stuff on Maintankadin during my lunch break/downtimes (which has been nearly all day) and have been finding it to be very informative. A lot of it is out of my league right now, but it'll definitely be useful when I get to 80.

One of my biggest pet peeves is mainspec asking if they can need on loot in 5 mans. Especially if it's a single leather class in a group. I can understand not wanting to be rude, but it just bugs me.

On the other hand, I approve when an offspec asks to need on the same thing that a mainspec is also needing for. It's polite.

Asking to need on offspec is not the same as asking to need on mainspec though. Though, I usually don't ask to roll on offspec, I just wait to see if anyone else rolls need first.

The most annoying thing about RDF is when "only allowed to roll on your own armor type" kicks in, and you're a resto druid who could really use that piece of cloth, but you can't roll need, so you greed but it goes to DE. You usually can't type "Can I get that if no one needs it" fast enough for people to not instinctively hit the DE button. It's not that bad if you don't have an enchanter at least. (Same applies to holy pallies and mail)

Asking to roll need on mainspec is a bit nuts. I never ask if I really do need it. I only ask when rolling for my offspec.

I tend to kick JC's that roll need on gems. Especially if they do it twice.
hehe you would hate me, I rolled need on every gem I could leveling up to save money. No one ever said anything though until I got to Blackrock Depths and someone asked why I was rolling on all the Prismatic Black Diamonds. I told him I was using them to level JC and he had no issue with it after that.

While annoying now, it won't be a huge deal in Cataclysm since they are making mastery penalties for wearing gear under your recommend armor level. With how important mastery is going to be, that can gimp you, unless the lower armor class is leaps and bounds above what you had.

After leveling a JC, I wouldn't get upset with someone needing on a gem. That was the most annoying profession I've leveled.

What ticked me off about it, is that engineers, blacksmiths and other need those gems at early levels too. They can get out there and mine like the rest of them.

I'm a big mining guy. You let me know what you need and I'll give them to you instead of AHing them.

If you guys are actually going to play, I can bring a character over.
Well, we have people playing now. If you're worried about wasting your money, you could always start a new character for now and transfer if it works out. I don't think we have any 80's right now anyways. Do we?

And Shannow, if you switch a character and we fizzle out within 3 months I'll PayPal you $25.

Maintankadin is a fantastic site. My main is a prot pally, and that's the best source I've found for info.

If you end up with any questions about it, feel free to hit me up as well. I can't spare the time to join you guys and play, but I'm happy to help out in other ways!

When someone who can invite comes on, I will be on Flintchip my Dwarf Hunter. I asked someone for an invite today and he wasn't very nice about it.
