I'm really enjoying this new season. The Comedy Central freedom is shining through in good ways.

If there's math in the background on Futurama, it's typically right. From what I understand, the show is staffed by nerds.

"That's Lobstertainment"
I think this one showed that Zoidberg, while funny, cannot carry a full episode as a central character.[/QUOTE]

I disagree. It's a terrible episode, but I think Zoidberg can carry an episode from time to time.
"Why Must I be a Crustacean in Love?" is a great episode that centres around Zoidberg, so it can be done!
Also, I recently rewatched season 3,4 and the movies because my new roommate had only seen seasons one and two. And upon rewatching, "That's Lobstertainment!" actually has relatively little Zoidberg in it. Its much more focused on Harold Zoid and Calculon. I think if anything it proves that as hilarious as Calculon is, he can't carry an episode. (See also, "BendHER")

In other news, I just watched the latest episode. Not a season defining episode of "Roswell that Ends Well" or "The Why of Fry" proportions, but a solid, funny episode. I definitely enjoyed it. And yet another great shot taken at Fox, and at themselves.

According to TV.com there have been a varying number of episodes per season. 9, 20, 15, 12, 16, 16 and this latest was the 12th episode of season 7, the 100th episode overall.

I think 13 episodes is the standard season length for animated series, though.

That is going by the broadcast season, which Fox messed up by splitting and airing the production seasons however they wanted. The production seasons have been a little bit more consistent with 13, 19, 22, 18, 16 (The four movies), and now 12 on Comedy Central.

Of course, Futurama is one of those confusing shows where everyone holds a different rule as to what season they're in. So did you (calling it 7) and apparently Cohen calls it season 6 but calls the four movies season 5.
Cohen is counting the production seasons rather than the braodacast seasons. It makes sense, as it is how the team originally intended for them to air. What many people call season 5 was actually done for nearly a year before it actually aired. So yeah, the Futurama staff went even longer without jobs than some people realize. Fox really screwed it all up.

I think that the confusion regarding the 100th episode and Christmas episode is that the Christmas episode is not being considered part of either broadcast season, as it is months inbetween the two. It may nto be part of the same production season either.
