Two episodes tomorrow:
Rebirth
After a devastating spaceship crash, the Professor attempts to resuscitate the crew with his birth machine.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela
Leela and Zapp Brannigan find themselves stranded on an Eden-like planet.

Any news on if the new episodes will be available for streaming from Hulu or any other legit sites? I ask because I do not have ( nor want ) cable TV and I was curious if there were legit sites for me to watch them on or if I would have to use other methods to watch them

It will likely end up being an excellent show with sub-par ratings and be canceled in a season or two.

You guys better watch early and watch often.

I'm bettin' on it being on Comedy Central's site, and hopefully on Comedy Network's site here in Canada (To be honest I haven't even checked to make sure its airing in Canada).

I caught up by watching all 4 seasons and all four movies shortly after classes ended, and I am now lending out my entire Futurama collection to some friends, who I'm pleased and excited to announce are quickly becoming fans of the series. Finally.

Seriously I feel like nobody understands half of what I say, because half of what I say is directly stolen from this show.

Yes, and also no. Its confusing. There were 4 production seasons, but the 4th was split and aired as seasons 4 and 5. But its still sold as season 4. Then there's the 4 movies, which were also split up into 16 episodes and aired as the rest of season 5.

#18

Reboneer

Aren't there five seasons?
There were four seasons produced, but due to Fox airing things weirdly, they were shown as five seasons. The four DVD movies were also split up and aired as sixteen half-hour episodes, so some people count that as a season as well. So the current season can be the 5th, 6th, or 7th season, depending on who you ask.

As for the two episodes... I thought both were great, although the first suffered a little from having to spend the whole episode dealing with the cliffhanger from the last movie.

#19

Frank

Frankie Williamson

I thought the first episode was miles funnier than the second one. The yoddling into the planet thing had me in stitches.

#20

I loved them both, but agree that the first one was the best

#21

ThatNickGuy

ThatNickGuy

*sighs* Ah, it's good to have Futurama back. I kinda dug the second one more, due to Zap freakin' Branigan. Especially the serialized pulp TV dreams he kept having. Awesome.

#22

D

Dubyamn

The final reveal for the second one was the funniest thing I've ever seen on television. Had they stopped maybe 4 reveals sooner it would have been the stupidest thing but they went with it and it turned into a whole new kind of hilarious

Overall I think they are both candidates for instant classics.

#23

Hylian

Hylian

I really like the first one (even if parts seemed a bit predictable) and as far as the second one goes it was alright. It definitely had soem funny moments but I don't think it will go down as one of my favorite episodes but it was still a good episode.

#24

DarkAudit

DarkAudit

Sob. DirecTV botched the guide listings, so the DVR missed the 2nd ep. Caught the first just before I had to leave for work last night.

So glad it's back. :D

#28

General Specific

General Specific

My favorite part of the first one was Zapp being spit out of the stem cell machine and going "Wheeeeeee" across the floor. Killed me. Bender cartwheeling onto the ship was also hilariable. "EVERYONE ON THE PARTY SHIP!"

Favorite bit of the second was the running gag at the end w/ Zapp constantly confessing stuff.

#29

Wyrminarrd

There were a lot of great lines in those episodes, I personally loved when the disco ball came down in the professors Chamber of Understanding :)

Then there was the guys initial enthusiastic reaction to Amy's orgy idea until they looked at each other :)

#30

General Specific

General Specific

I could have sworn that the music playing in the Professor's Chamber of Understanding was some Daft Punk. Probably just sounded like it, though, and with the sort clip, it'd be impossible to tell.

Also I feel I should add:

It just wouldn't be Futurama if there weren't completely unnecessary nudity.

#32

Calleja

Calleja

I think the move to Comedy Central deserved a different or at least modified opening sequence, no?

Loved both episodes, though. I also couldn't help but giggle at the title of the second one... "In-a-gadda-da-Leela", I know most of you probably know this already, but in case someone doesn't... In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida is a (very, very long) song by Iron Butterfly... whose name supposedly comes from when one of the band members (the vocalist, I think?) was drugged out of his brain and tried to pronounce "In the Garden of Eden", but ended up slurring something that the rest of the band thought sounded like "In-a-gadda-da-vida". They named the song after that. Fun times.

Top 11: Familiar Faces We Want to See in the Futurama

I don't agree with the countdown, but it is pretty fun to watch (plus, the drawing of the Nostalgia Critic, Linkara, Angry Joe and the Nostalgia Chick as heads in jars is pretty cool). The Familiar Faces series on That Guy With the Glasses is starting to grow on me. The pacing isn't great, but I've got to admit that I have a fondness for minor characters.

BAD episode? I thought that episode was really funny.

Whale Biologist was definitely the best part of it though, I agree. But I don't necessarily want that character to come back. Most of the characters in that list I think work because they were one shot deals.

I think that was a lazy addition to the list (along with the big brains). Of course Glab will be back, so long as doop still exists.

But I disagree with reaching into obscurity. "I'm going to allow this" is a favourite catchphrase among me and my Futurama loving friends.

http://livefeed.hollywoodreporter.com/2010/06/futurama-returns-with-strong-ratings-.htm

"Futurama" averaged 2.9 million viewers and a 1.9 rating in adults 18-49 when it aired Thursday night on Comedy Central, Nielsen Media Research said Monday. It was tied for the highest-rated show in adults 18-49 in all TV on Thursday's primetime, and was the highest-rated show among men 18-24 and men 18-34. Comedy Central said it helped the network to its highest-rated night in 2010 and its highest-rated Thursday primetime in the history of the network.
Great to see that the show is getting good numbers, hopefully this will mean that we will get more then just the 26 episodes ordered so far :)

#48

Holy shit, that's awesome news, let's hope they maintain at least similar numbers and it wasn't all just cause of the return buzz.

#49

General Specific

General Specific

I plan to continue watching. I'm a little interested in how the dynamic between Fry & Leela will affect everything. The tension between them was a big plot point and now that has changed. But character growth is a good thing and I trust the writers to keep things going. :D

Also, I personally want to see a return of Al Gore. He's always been a good source of funny when he guests.

Also, on the rerun of a previous episode, I had to make this:

I've enjoyed the season so far, though I feel tonight's episode was definitely the worst of the new season. Best for me was still the Garden of Eden episode. The scene were Zap explains his whole scheme at the end was just so good.

I finally got around to watching the episode yesterday and I thought it was pretty decent. Not the best episode ever but still a decent episode.

#56

D

Dubyamn

Tonight's episode was moments of absolute brilliance: Humanity enslaved by the giraffes, the series of statues of liberty, Old Leela blasting the message and shooting Hitler broken up by moments of obscene idiocy: The deus ex machina of time restarting mostly.

The episode definately had some laughs the Hitler one was especially well done but overall Comedy central plays a repeat I'll switch the channel to something else.

Bah. If you fail your defense, you shouldn't have been defending in the first place. You'd have already been tested for general knowledge at your comps. Your committee would've been familiar with your project already, too, from your thesis proposal presentation. Plus, they probably would've read at least a rough draft of your thesis before you defend. But I guess that doesn't make for dramatic TV.

Well, it IS 1000 years in the future. Maybe the process changed. The writers are familiar with the process I'm sure. There's like 4 PhDs in the Futurama writers' room.

In my opinion, the last three episodes have all been quite solid, with the last two being particularly great.

#67

General Specific

Anyway, Amy was MADE to fail by the cat. So, it was never really fair to her.

#68

checkeredhat

checkeredhat

I don't think the latest one was that great. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. I loved "Lethal Inspection", The Late Philip J. Fry", and "A Clockwork Origin", and then this one came along, and I think it's really only on par with "That Darn Katz!" (Which I actually liked, just not as much)

Still not the worst of the season though, by any stretch of the imagination. That was irrefutably the Eye-phone one, which is actually the worst episode from ANY season, including the movies, that I can think of off the top of my head. I think it was worse than "That's Lobstertainment", it was so bad.

Overall, I think this season has been very good though so far. The great episodes outnumber the below average ones, and what's left over is still really good Futurama.

I am pleased.

"That's Lobstertainment"
I think this one showed that Zoidberg, while funny, cannot carry a full episode as a central character.[/QUOTE]

I disagree. It's a terrible episode, but I think Zoidberg can carry an episode from time to time.
"Why Must I be a Crustacean in Love?" is a great episode that centres around Zoidberg, so it can be done!
Also, I recently rewatched season 3,4 and the movies because my new roommate had only seen seasons one and two. And upon rewatching, "That's Lobstertainment!" actually has relatively little Zoidberg in it. Its much more focused on Harold Zoid and Calculon. I think if anything it proves that as hilarious as Calculon is, he can't carry an episode. (See also, "BendHER")

In other news, I just watched the latest episode. Not a season defining episode of "Roswell that Ends Well" or "The Why of Fry" proportions, but a solid, funny episode. I definitely enjoyed it. And yet another great shot taken at Fox, and at themselves.

According to TV.com there have been a varying number of episodes per season. 9, 20, 15, 12, 16, 16 and this latest was the 12th episode of season 7, the 100th episode overall.

I think 13 episodes is the standard season length for animated series, though.

I think 13 episodes is the standard season length for animated series, though.
That is going by the broadcast season, which Fox messed up by splitting and airing the production seasons however they wanted. The production seasons have been a little bit more consistent with 13, 19, 22, 18, 16 (The four movies), and now 12 on Comedy Central.

Of course, Futurama is one of those confusing shows where everyone holds a different rule as to what season they're in. So did you (calling it 7) and apparently Cohen calls it season 6 but calls the four movies season 5.
Cohen is counting the production seasons rather than the braodacast seasons. It makes sense, as it is how the team originally intended for them to air. What many people call season 5 was actually done for nearly a year before it actually aired. So yeah, the Futurama staff went even longer without jobs than some people realize. Fox really screwed it all up.

I think that the confusion regarding the 100th episode and Christmas episode is that the Christmas episode is not being considered part of either broadcast season, as it is months inbetween the two. It may nto be part of the same production season either.
