Who also got the collector's edition? Posting this while updating my game. :)

P.S. I also want hal bucks therefore there shall be a poll! no dancers though sorry.

I hope it is good, hope you guys enjoy it. But I quit playing RTS's a long time ago.

Keep us posted, when you guys come up for breathers.

Got it last night, was one of the only ones in the area able to get a collectors edition, which might I add, is totally awesome. Already played a few single player missions to get a feel for it, and really love the cinematic quality so far. I also enjoy being able to click around and get little tidbits from the bar/ship, like the photos on the wall.

When I went to bed I just got on the Hyperion, so now I can start getting upgrades. I have always been about strong defenses, so I think I am going to start out with bunker upgrades, and build up to making a strong air force.

I'm debating on buying at all, it should run on my 3 year old laptop, though I still need to find another 5GB of space to clear for the install. I would be a walk-in purchaser (visiting Boston this weekend), so also unsure if I should spend the time looking for the collector's edition.

When it comes to the CE, there are a few items that make it worth it, but only if you want those items.

A behind-the-scenes DVD,
A soundtrack with all the music from the game,
Issue #0 of the upcoming StarCraft comic book,
An art book,
A unique WoW pet, the Mini-Thor,
Special downloaded content for your battle.net account,
A memory stick shaped like a Terran dogtag with James Raynor's name. Comes with a full copy of StarCraft 1 and BW on it already.

Really, all that together, plus the game, makes it worth it for me. However, if you feel all you want is the game, and none of the stuff above is going to be used or desired, just buy the regular game. You won't lose out on anything other then fluff.

I got the collector's edition, but I ordered it on Amazon, because waiting in a line to get into a store at midnight is only a fun experience the very first time.

Any idea if you can run Starcraft 1 directly off the stick, or does it need to be installed to hard drive (meaning they give it on USB rather than CD-ROM)?

Playing in the beta last few months, I figure I can wait a few hours and get it after work today, and instead enjoyed a nice nights sleep.

I haven't tested that out yet. I was having too much fun playing a couple of mission in SC2 :) but I can test that out later tonight when I get home (which will be late since I got piles of work here)

I have not used it yet since I am a bit busy playing SC2, but the guide that came with the CE says "preloaded with StarCraft 1 and Brood War". I assume that means it can be run off the drive, but it could also mean they just preloaded the installer file. I will check when I get home from work.

Played a few missions so far, enjoying it. I like the between missiuon areas. They have a Lost Vikings space shooter arcade game that I assume was made with the map editor as a neat little minigame.

I also like that fact that there is a choose your upgrade style options for the campaign.

I've been torn between getting this now or waiting a little bit. Maybe I'll pick it up on the way home from work tomorrow.

If you LOVE RTS, then it is a good game (for me so far) but if you are on the fence, I say wait. It is pretty pricey especially the collector's edition :)

I loved Starcraft and the trailers have me intrigued but my biggest dilemma is that I just got back into WoW. So, yeah...

HEY GUYS! Guess what I'm going to start playing as soon as I get things set up?

Mario 64...I just moved back home and want to try the N64 on my dad's projector. Should be kinda cool.

:/

The dog tag is the install file :) can't play off the thumbdrive.

Yup, I waited in line last night to get my copy of the Collector's Edition. It was a nice night out, and I met some cool people in line, so that made it that much better.

Luckily I was 4th in line, and the store had 12 Collector's Editions, but someone, somehow, was able to preorder 8 of them. The 3 in front of me only got the regular, and the next 3 behind me got the Collector's. I also got a free hat, and a poster.

I love Jim Raynor's Dogtags, and the Art Book, such beautiful stuff. I read the comic, and that was cool, and I loaded the Soundtrack into iTunes, but only listened to a couple of songs. I think later tonight I'm going to watch the making-of DVD.

I've played a couple of missions so far, and it looks beautiful on my MBP. It's a lot smoother (I found) than the original on my Mac, and I like how you can now select up to 24 units all-together, instead of only 12 (It was harder to raid bases back in the day like that).

I bought it digital and been playing through.

Hey roxx, as far as I can tell, you can select a whole lot more than 24.

Also Im pleased to see my laptop can run the game on all Ultra settings. Sweetness.

Also, I'm playing on Brutal difficulty and the "wait for extraction" mission (there's always one of those in every RTS, isn't there?t) is kicking my ass something fierce. Any tips? :p

You are starting out with Brutal? Yikes. I am doing normal right now and plan to move up to hard for my second playthrough. :p

One thing that I kind of like is the "choice" missions. Basically when you accept the mission it gives you a choice on who you are going to help for the mission, and you get the advantages and disadvantages of those choices. So far I have handled two...

Doctor Hansen vs Executor Selendris
You find that the Protoss are about to purge a human colony because of a zerg virus spreading around from a former mission. Executor Selendris is behind the purge, and since she respects Raynor, offers him the ability to carry out the purge himself. Doctor Hansen disagrees and pleads for Jim to spare and defend the colony, saying she can find a cure for the virus if he can only hold off the Protoss, who will attack if he does not. Depending on who you pick the mission changes and you get either Protoss or Zerg research.

Tosh vs Nova
You find out from an anonymous source that Tosh is a Spectre, and later on when you join the mission to attack the prison planet for Tosh, the source turns out to be Nova, the ghost from the canceled StarCraft: Ghost game. She explains that the process that makes a Spectre often drives them to insanity, and they are known serial killers, and that Tosh is using you to free his Spectre brothers from the prison. You can either side with Tosh and free the prisoners, gaining the "Spectre" unit, or help Nova stop Tosh and destroy his hidden training facility, gaining the classic "Ghost" unit. I have to admit, this one has been a hard choice for me, since I either choose between a nutball pirate killer, or a dominion spy, not great choices.

Man, done the first 8 or so missions. Is it me or is normal about 12000 times easier than Starcraft 1's difficulty?

thanks, looks like standard edition for me

I really do want to play this, but my computer isn't up to the recommended stats :-(
Still, I'll buy it pretty much first chance I get :-P

That had been confirmed well before launch. Any and all multiplayer has to pass through b.net. I'm still betting they'll give in on this point after a while.

Sorry... I hadn't really been following this that closely. I remember how LAN friendly Starcraft was and it just annoys me that now everything has to go through battlenet.

My buddies and I still have LAN gaming sessions every once in a while. It's nice to find new games that are actually LAN friendly anymore... silly Blizzard.

the ONLY reason I can come up with that Blizz forces everyone to play on B.Net is to "reduce piracy" you have to register your Serial number to your account and thus you can play (even just logging in to solo play) I remember that StarCraft 1, you can play with pirate version on LAN game and only need 1 valid account to update the rest ;)

This whole anti-piracy is not going to fix the anti-piracy IMO. If the game is good enough and worth the money, people WILL buy them. StarCraft 1 are still being sold. People are still buying Team Fortress 2. If people want to pirate, they will pirate and find ways to get around the anti-pirate things. I'm sure someone already figure out how to get around the b.net requirement.

I was just playing 2vAI with my bro and we couldnt for the life of us figure out how to select the computer race. It just sets it to random.

Sadly you're probably right that people will find ways around the b.net requirement. I just wish Blizzard had included the functionality in the beginning. Oh well.

Yea. It would make sense that if you are already require people to log on to B.net, might as well let people have their LAN games. It is faster locally and don't have to worry about internet going down.
