Bullfighting...... when bulls decide to fight back!!

Yeah, that will likely be the end for bull fighting in Spain...

It should also go under the file of Bulls are not supposed to be able to do that.

Bwahwahwa, that's bloody great. It probably won't lead to anything, as the region this happened in is one of the more pro-taurine ones, but it's still a lovely occurrence. I hope there were no children injured.

A 10 year old was seriously injured.

Hasn't this happened before? I had a vague sense of deja vu seeing that video.
I think it has, but it is the first time I've seen a bull climb that protection wall for the matador then jump the rail. Normally they just leap over a low railing into a crowd.

Crud, that sucks, I hope he gets better. Couldn't get to watch the video due to connection woes.

Fuck with a bull and you get the horns. Maybe because a 10 year old got hurt people can start to see how fucking stupid bullfighting is?

Wait, I thought bullfighting was recently banned? Or was that in another country? Maybe I was just dreaming.

Also.. the video.... while no blood, still kinda hard to see.. knowing how damn heavy that thing is... it literally jumped in, and it fell down a fwe times dropping its full weight on everyone between the wall and the bull...
The ban was in an administrative region of Spain. Not the nation as a whole.

Well, it's a start, I guess ?
Bullfighting is banned in the Canary Islands (in effect) and in Catalonia, northeastern region, where it starts on Jan. 1 2012, iirc.

I was under the impression that the bull fought back every time.
Drugged and severely wounded before even given a chance to fight back.
Well that's no fun. That would preclude the bugs bunny antics that were presented to me as bullfighting when I was a child. A drugged bull would not be able to work the pedal on the spinning sharpening wheel to file down his horns in preparation for stomping across the arena to the tune of the mexican hat dance and give that rabbit what-for.

That's well over a year from now? Why?
To give time to the people that base their living around this (livestock handlers, commercials, landlords, bullfighters, administration, etc.) to adapt to it.

This happens from time to time, but it usually does in smaller arenas, with smaller (a lot smaller) bulls which most times are not even being fought, just chased around and harassed by drunken guys (which should give an idea of how much smaller they are).
Also, all the Spanish forumites here are from that region, so maybe that's why you got confused AmE?

PS: I'm not glad about this, I don't think anyone is going to change opinions about bullfighting because of it)

I still wouldn't watch it, and would still think it's grotesque, but if the bull wasn't drugged and severely wounded pre-fight, I could at least understand why it would be considered "manly" to fight it with a sword.

I have to admit, I prefer rodeo to bullfighting. Same amount of courage needed, but the rodeo clowns don't have spears and ideally both the bull and the cowboy live to compete again. In fact, generally it's the cowboy at greater risk.

If we couldn't stop those damn vuvuzelas what can we do against bullfighting :O.

We could introduce vuvuzelas in bullfighting arenas! That will destroy one of them or even both things!
