Fallout : New Vegas (BUYER BEWARE)

Fallout : New Vegas ^.^

The technical issues sound identical to Fallout 3. I think a lot of reviewers really made those out to be a lot more than they were.

Mafia 2? you should be done in 2 sittings.

PS folks, before people will start discussing the game kindly make sure to be VERY careful with spoilers. (aka nothing story related at least for the first week)
Between school, work, hanging with friends, my Pathfinder game, and it being the biggest sports month of the year I've been lucky to play a chapter every 2-3 days.

Ouch, this game is a buggy mess.

No lag, seems to run fine but I'm getting consistent crash to desktops with no messages at all. Oddly, Fallout 3 runs without any issues, ever.

Fallout : New Vegas ^.^

Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.

Fuck, Obsidian, guys, hire some God damn competent technical folks.

Fallout : New Vegas ^.^

I can't say if the game is buggy or not. I'm still stuck waiting for Steam to finish updating.

Fallout : New Vegas ^.^

My issues are two fold. The game crashes randomly to desktop without a message. Also, my "quick save" disappeared. Yet my normal save was find. Thankfully, I only lost a few minutes. There's all sorts of posts on these issues and it seems that my issues are steam related with steam cloud sync sucking a dick. I also got "Steam Error Game Not Available" and I had to RESTART Steam...

I can't understand why they couldn't hire a few people to test their shit beforehand?

"If you save your progress using autosave/quicksave, the game may revert you back to first quicksave when you restart the game, resulting in loss of all the game progress. Steam cloud may be the problem as there is no fix yet, and disabling steam cloud would disable the achievements. Though, Steam has come out themselves to disable the Steam cloud for this game, and they are investigating these issues. Meanwhile, use the ESC/Save to save the game manually then using quick save hotkey to save instantly and save a lot. When you start the game again, you may notice that continue starts the game from the quick save so better load the game."

"If your facing consistent game crashes after 20-30 minutes into the game, try disabling Steam Cloud Sync, it may resolve this issue."

Fallout : New Vegas ^.^

Steam has been updating for four goddamn hours. The progress bar has rolled over 100% at least 13 times now.

Considering just buying the PS3 version and setting this one on fire.

Game may or may not be good. I might never know.

Fallout : New Vegas ^.^

From what I've played so far I've liked it. I do get some stutter on the ps3 version every so often while travelling and I did a lock up during a loading while going through a door.

Fallout : New Vegas ^.^

Managed to play about 2 hours before it randomly crashed. At least it provided a message.

All I did was run it in a Windows mode. Seems that helps the situation a lot from what I gathered on their forums. Since my resolution is practically full screen, I don't even see a difference.

Fallout : New Vegas ^.^

Seriously, what the fuck. I'm giving up. It just keeps going from 0 to 100%, and then restarting. I took tomorrow off to play this game, I think that may be a bust.

Time to scour the steam forums in hopes of finding a fix for this.

Or if anyone wants to pm me a detailed and safe way to bypass steam... I bought the game honest injun, and I don't give a crap about online achievements of cloud storage. I just want to plaaaaay.

Ravenpoe A few things to try :

Go to your Steam Library, right click the game, properties.
Hit the Local Files tab and click on Verify integrity of game cache.
Then Defrag
If all else fails go to updates tab and play with the settings in there.

Apparently an update was shipped out this evening and your install ain't syncing/having issues validating the integrity.

I can't get steam to start at all. Attempting to start steam brings up an "updating steam platform" progress bar, that does nothing but go from 0 to 100 and then restart.

I've been trying some tinkering, following various advice I was able to find on the steam forums. Deleting a few setting files (clientregistry.blob, etc). It now runs from 0 to 26% before restarting, so at least my frustration comes around faster now. Now tinkering with windows firewall, but those exceptions all still seem to be set.

Luckily, I had a clean install. No bugs or crashes so far, so lucky me!

It's quite amazing so far. I just left the first town, and I'm already intrigued by the story.

Poe: I looked on the Steam forums, and looks like you might need to run the Steam Installer.msi and choose Fix/Repair. Failing that, a clean install of Steam might be your best bet. Stick with PC though, from what I hear, the 360 and PS3 versions are even buggier. :p

Done a clean install. Uninstalled steam completely (backed up my games first... which are only hl2 and portal), even tried installing steam to a new directory (win7 64bit seems to have some problems with permissions in the program files directory), it's still giving the same error. Steam update runs, gets to 26%, starts over. Eventually, it just stops, saying steam is temporarily unavailable. Checked windows firewall, re-added exceptions for the steam executable, as well as made custom ingoing/outgoing rules to allow the connection. Still nothing.

Poe has a sad.

I'm giving up for tonight. I'll try again tomorrow, and if that doesn't work, maybe I'll just sell it. It's the collector's edition, complete with amazon pre-order bonus code, all unredeemed. Should be able to get at least something for it.

The game is buggy as fuck with this current build of their game.

During, without saying any spoilers per say, a huge confrontation of say a dozen NPCs my computer would stutter like no one's business. VATS would be close to useless with baddies being literally 5 feet from my face and all it is giving me are 0% to hit. The game managed to survive the conflict once before crashing as it "told me" my rep outcome (aka, even if I did no damage). I turned on speedfan and watched it record another instance of the battle. For some reason, the game is only using 30% of my GPU. I validated it with a few other games without issues but for some reason New Vegas is opnly capped to 30%.

I just found a few threads concerning this issue.

Needless to state, HF, I strongly recommend to not buy this game as quickly as I did and wait until they patch this half-assed build.

---------- Post added at 01:34 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:22 AM ----------

Apparently they found a massive bug on the PC that the new "facial expressions" on NPCS will cause horrible lag. I just went in the game and started shooting all the civilians and the game lagged hard, I managed to kill them all and the game still lagged. When I managed to blow up their HEADS with my shotgun (aka, the corpse) suddenly the game was playing fine.

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON

Fallout : New Vegas ^.^

unfortunately, no. Not at all.

And the bug that Jay's explaining? Some modders have done way more than that to the original game without fucking it up.

I love Fallout 1 & 2 to death like everybody else but i just can't keep giving a free pass (see how i defended alpha protocol) to those guys every time they fuck up because of games they made 10 and 12 years ago.

Fallout : New Vegas ^.^

It's Obsidian... and from what i recall Fallout 3 was very buggy when it came out too... if NV came out without any show stopping bugs it would have started raining chocolate frosting and there would have been peace in the middle east while cats and dogs danced the polka on the streets.

The real question is, is the story any good?

Fallout : New Vegas ^.^

So far the story is interesting... I've only played it for about two hours though and I have been wandering around not necessarily going where I'm supposed to.

I haven't had any show stopping crashes or problems... but have run into multitudes of graphical and weird errors.

- Enemy convicts running in the air... and dying there and not falling to the ground... odd
- Cheyennes eyes are attached to his cheek instead of in his eye sockets and it's actually really disturbing.
- Stuttery movement from npcs at times... butter smooth at others. Can't seem to figure out why.
- Invisible walls.

Still been a good experience for me so far though. Though the game took about half an hour to "unlock"... stupid steam.

I think that's cool! You know you'll never sneak past him...

He's keeping an eye out for ya.

Jay, that's exactly the creepy glitch I was talking about lol.

What kind of PC's are you guys running and what sort of settings? Just curious to see whether some of us are having performance bottlenecks or if the code is just sloppy and buggy.

I'm running an Intel Core 2 Quad 9300 cpu, 4 gigs of RAM, Nvidia Geforce 8800GT and Windows 7 64 bit.

I'm currently running the game at 1680x1050 resolution with the details turned up pretty high. I may be pushing things a bit but the game is running pretty smoothly for now... though like I said before... I do get weird stutters in npcs moving around at times. Battles have been decent too... one battle involving around 6 npcs showed negligible performance decreases.

Game is released in Europe in 2 days, maybe they'll have a patch out before that and i won't have to endure Obsidian's lack of betatesting AGAIN.

It's Obsidian, definitely sloppy code.

Hm.

I preordered this on Steam a while a back but haven't gotten into it yet - I'm pretty deep into Mass Effect 2 again right now.

Hopefully it'll be all patched up by the time I decide to dive in.

(ETA unknown; currently playing through Mass Effect 2 and a huge new Sims 3 expansion comes out next Tuesday.)

Still can't get steam installed. I had installed it in the past without any problems, now it just updates forever and never starts.

Instead of playing New Vegas all day long on my day off, I've spent my day off trying to find answers on steams help forums (lots of people with the same problem, no answers) and trying to contact steam help (no luck).

We should trade avatars for a while. Yours looks too happy for what you've gone through.
