Yeah, I hate that you have to pay for high res for it. I've been thinking of just making a vectored version of it in illustrator so I can get any resolution I want.
 
My current bg is low resolution, but I love it too much to care.

Very, very true. Too many aspiring photographers use HDR as a means to make their photos pop, rather than a means to bring up the detail in the shadows and highlights.
 
Holy HDR, Batman. He actually uses it to pretty good effect, but man, I'm tired of seeing it.
Apparently he was the first photographer to have an HDR photo in the Smithsonian, which is pretty cool. I only recently learned what HDR photography is, so while I've probably seen it, I haven't really 'realized' what I was looking at and don't feel overexposed to it. I really love his stuff. Picking out 30 favourites was fun, and it gives me a nice variety on my desktop.
 
Yeah, when I first learned about HDR I was all 'FUCK THIS IS AAAAWESOME!' After you've seen your hundredth glowing building, though, the magic tends to subside.
