Or, you know, you could observe the direction the sun/moon/stars are moving in (they move enough to be noticable) and infer direction based on that.

Doesn't help underground, but then neither do floating cardinal signs (which would only work for a portion of the world anyway).

What I want is a GPS that tells me what block I'm at so I can reliably connect tunnels, map my underground caverns, and so forth.

Hey FnordBear, looks like it'll take me a while to figure out what I'm gonna do with that lightstone, so I left half of the pumpkins I found in your mailbox. I'll drop off the other half whenever I finish.

Screw Farmville, I've got Minecraft!


My acre of farmland is coming along nicely.

Though, this is really annoying:

Phantom seeds! None of those are collectable. They all exist on my computer, but not on the server.

There are also patches in my farm where seeds just won't take. I'm not sure why. (EDIT: Doh! I may have just realized why. Some uncleared tree leaves may be blocking the light to those squares. This warrants further investigation.)


The other day I saw movement, and upon investigation I found this:

Cows riding mine carts! The visuals were a little glitchy, but they were just looping around and around.

Randomly wandering around, stumbled into a big-ass cavern. Seriously HUGE. I filled up my inventory with coal, redstone, 4 stacks of iron, some gold and even a couple diamonds, and eventually I had to leave due to full inventory/out of torch material, but even then there were still entire branches of the place I had yet to explore. Pretty awesome stuff.

Long time lurker, Decided to join after watching a coworker frequent these forums.
didn't help that you guys have a minecraft server either.... minecraft is like crack...

i havn't set up a 'camp' yet on the map, still working on getting a few base tools. the only thing i left on the map so far is just a workbench and an empty chest.

I updated the first post a bit with some rules regarding distribution of the server address. I want you to be able to play with your friends and family, but I also want to give people unlimited access once they're committed to the server. This means that slots are yours to offer, but they ARE limited and shouldn't be handed out like christmas cards. Prioritise your girl/boyfriend before the fat guy across the hall ;)

Oh, and David, be more careful with your lava in the future. A forest fire started in Lavapolis and got pretty big. A couple of guys were kind enough to put it out for you, but the landscape probably looks pretty rough by now, since they had to build dirt towers and such to reach the flames. Let me know if you want new trees and I'll see what I can do.

Drifter and I managed to put out the forest fire in the north and took some preventive measures to try to keep that from happening again.

Which reminds me that I need to delete that frozen forest fire to the east. Don't go there before then, lest your very souls will be annihilated (and you will have to log off).

Yea, im using najamesk1 on the server. i made a small stone hut to the south? of the bowl, or UFO. I'll probally build out from there i guess, toward the water source near everyone else. Im not as creative as everyone else, but i'll be cozy when im done

I haven't even collected a full stack of iron yet...

Of course, you guys have mined the main area so extensively I don't really count of finding much while I'm quarrying for stone.

I'm sorry about the fire, guys. I was watching it unfold, than after a while didn't see it spread to any more trees, I figured it had already burned down all it could reach so it would be safe to leave the still-burning logs there as torches.

I noticed somebody built a pub by the mailboxes. In my opinion, it needs to be bigger. Who built it, and would you mind if I helped you enlarge it? I have a little experience building taverns (I've got a two story inn with bar and rooms in GasBandia).
