So, FIFA announced the winning bidders for the 2018 and 2022 World Cup, and it just so happens it was the two countries highly suspected of submitting bribes with their proposals, Russia and Qatar.
Russia beat out slight favorite England, which hasn't hosted since 1966. This is suspect, but not disastrous, as Russia has several facilities in place, a decent national squad, and has never hosted before.
As for Qatar, they barely have a national soccer team, have no FIFA-quality facilities, and beat out the USA bid, meaning heavy 2026 favorite China is now out of the running there as well (same continent can't host two straight Cups). This one is heavily fishy, although they did put together a nice Youtube video describing what facilities might look like when they build them, with the plans to make them "portable" so they can tear them down afterwards and ship them to other countries.
