You know, I read that post and immediately thought, "Yeah, left over from the Clinton Administration, no doubt."

Then I remembered what our Tinwhistler did for a living in times past. (FACEPALM)

Ah yes, that's how most people who work in the city do it. You get a lot more for house your money in VA, generally.

The only downside is the commute. And it's a huge downside.

I work in DC, but live in Arlington and it works out really well. My commute is about 30 minutes in the morning through the city and would be about 15-20 if I worked near the White House. The afternoons are a bit slower at 40 minutes on average, but once you learn the city it doesn't get that bad. George Washington Parkway is also a good road to get around.

I used to metro all the time until they raised the fair 33% earlier this year during Rush Hour. Now I drive to work because it is a bit faster and cheaper. There has to be some irony in there somewhere.

If I wasn't Carpooling, I would probably metro more often. There is something nice about getting on for a metro haul and reading a book on your way to work.

Nice! Make sure to get a SmartTrip Card; it is really convenient and saves 25 cents on each ride for the Metro (and I think it saves money on Buses).

I love it in DC even though it can get expensive. However, I moved here from San Francisco, so I'm used to it!

Nice. I luckily had a family friend I could stay with for my first week there while I apartment hunted. I moved in the next weekend. Remember, Ikea and Craigslist is your friend. ;)
