My best wishes that everything is ok Dave. I'd have jumped fences and broken windows to find my kids in that situation. Keep us updated.

Just got a text/email from the school:

Millard South High School is in a lock down. Students are safe. Police are in control of the building. Police advise that parents go to the church just to the west of the school (Divine Shepard Church) where they can wait until police provide an orderly dismissal of students.

DO NOT COME to Millard South High School property.

Holy crap, Dave, that's some school day! I hope your daughter and everyone else is okay.

And no, you don't need to keep us posted. You need to get your daughter home, safe and sound. She needs her dad more than the forum needs Dave the floppy-titted admin.

Just wanted to say that, man... I ain't a praying type of guy, but I'll be thinking about your daughter and her schoolmates.

Update:

The shooter is in custody. He went into the school and shot the Principal and one other person in the office. The Principal, Dr. Case, was taken by helicopter to the hospital and the other person's condition is unknown. I've spoken with my daughter and although she was close to the shooting she didn't see anything and is fine.

Edit:

The shooter is sort of in custody. They had him surrounded in his car but the police have called it in as Code 4 - DOA. So he probably shot himself.

I'm so glad to hear your daughter is physically OK. Hopefully, the school will provide counselling to the students and families who want/need it.

I just read articles under the assumption that every comment is a troll attempt. Best case scenario, someone is trying to be stupidly funny, worst case scenario the person is genuinely stupid. Best not to dwell on it, though.

The shooter has yet to be named but was a senior at the school. It's very likely I know the shooter as well as the victim.

Shooter's dad was a cop. Rumors (by the press) are he used his dad's gun in the shooting.

I am glad to hear that your daughter is alright Dave. I can only imagine what you were/are feeling about all this but I hope everything goes well and that your daughter (or the rest of your family) isn't to shook up over the incident.

News is reporting that the shooter was discovered dead in a car about a mile away from the school.

Hopeful that the situation has calmed down at the school and that everyone else is OK.

At one point today I had on:

  1. Television
  2. Radio
  3. Police Scanner
  4. Twitter (Millard South is the #1 trending Topic in the WORLD today. Last time that happened? Westroads shooting.)
  5. Facebook

But even though my daughter is fine there are a number of people who will be more affected by this.

  1. Detective Robert Butler Sr. and his family. Father of the shooter. An Omaha Detective.
  2. Principal Case and his family.
  3. Asst. Principal Kaspar and her family.
  4. The kids who were at lunch and right next to the office when the shooting happened.
  5. A friend of my daughter's whose mother was one of the victims of the Von Maur shooting at the Westroads Mall. How this is affecting her I have no idea.
