Let them protest. It's their right as Americans, but I sure hope they know that they're facing another army by messing with the Patriots. Our school saying is "We are Millard South" and it has never rung so true. So, let them protest at Dr. Kaspar's funeral. They will not succeed in whatever it is they're trying to do and they're facing thousands of people.

They aren't even worth that much effort.
Very true. The absolute worst thing you could do to these people is ignore them. Not yell at them, taunt them, or even laugh at them. Just pretending they don't exist would shrivel their pathetic, attention-starved, childish egos.
<no offense to children, who are much more mature than the Westboro Baptist Church>

Exactly. They do this crap to get negative reactions for which they can sue for money to feed their hate. They want our attention. They want people to be angry about it and outraged and they want people to lash out so that they can try to prosecute them.

As much as I hope that my children never have to experience a situation like this, I can at least hope they'll have the love and support of everyone around them like you do Sammi.

I actually like what certain biker groups do at Marine funerals WBC protests. They circle around the WBC protesters and rev the piss out of their Harley's.

When most adults tell teens that "they have it so good" it's because they see their own childhood with rose-colored goggles, and can't empathize with a modern teenager's situation. After all, you've got mortgage, car repairs, career, money, bills, etc to worry about. All your snot-nosed punk kid has to worry about is looking cool and getting invited to next weeks party. Being a teenager sucks. Most adults forget that.

If I were to look back and tell myself that High School was without a doubt the greatest point of my life to this point, I'd seriously have to reevaluate the kind of life I was living.

Oh, for fucks sake. Like the situation isn't already bad enough.

(Sorry, that was in response to Westboro showing up. Bit late to the "party".)

Hated my teen years, would go back in a heartbeat and tell myself that it gets better with every year after. No question.

Sammi, I just want to say that you are coming across as unbelievably smart and strong during this whole ordeal. My hat goes off to you. You're destroying about a million myths that people (even me) have about High School students.

Dave, you raised one hell of a daughter.

I second that emotion.

Thirded.

Both my mom and my older sister work in schools (my sister is a Special Ed Teacher and my mom is a Special Ed aide (different schools)) - I can't imagine what it'd be like to be at a school that has that type of stuff happen at it.

The only way I'd go back to High School, or my teen years is if I could go back knowing what I know now.

Probably the only thing I miss about my teen years is my physique at age 18-20. That's about it.

You know, my high school years sucked. I was bullied badly till about grade 10 and I had to be shipped off to a private school just so I could actually graduate instead of failing everything. The important thing though is that I wouldn't be who I am today without those experiences... and I'm happy with who I am.

I sure as hell wouldn't want to go back and do it again though... *shudders*

Why hello there, Marcel Proust.

I dunno about either of those. If I didn't experience the things I did, I wouldn't be the person I am now, and I'm damn happy with who that is. Also, my physique is much better now than the stick figure I represented back then -laugh-

Maybe not the physique, just the whole youth aspect of it. I had a lot more energy back then.

Thank you so much. That means a lot to me and I appreciate it. It's a difficult time for all of us, but we all have amazing support. The whole community is behind us. The ribbon I have as my photo right now, is the profile picture of over 500 people on Facebook right now. From South, from other schools, from Omaha, from Nebraska, even from the students that were here for the exchange program (Germany). There are so many things being done for the people effected and we've all come together. Our school's saying is "I am Millard South. You are Millard South. We are Millard South." and now we all see that it is so true. Thank you all for your support. It is greatly appreciated.

Just lending another voice of support. I will send positive thoughts.

I'm afraid you lost me on this one...
Quoted from Little Miss Sunshine:

Dwayne: I wish I could just sleep until I was eighteen and skip all this crap-high school and everything-just skip it.
Frank: Do you know who Marcel Proust is?
Dwayne: He's the guy you teach.
Frank: Yeah. French writer. Total loser. Never had a real job. Unrequited love affairs. Gay. Spent 20 years writing a book almost no one reads. But he's also probably the greatest writer since Shakespeare. Anyway, he uh... he gets down to the end of his life, and he looks back and decides that all those years he suffered, Those were the best years of his life, 'cause they made him who he was. All those years he was happy? You know, total waste. Didn't learn a thing. So, if you sleep until you're 18... Ah, think of the suffering you're gonna miss. I mean high school? High school-those are your prime suffering years. You don't get better suffering than that.
