Well I'm glad Sammi's okay.
High school didn't suck for me, but it certainly didn't rock either. I wasn't picked on much but I never got invited to the big parties. I spent my weekends playing D&D and doing stuff with my Boy Scout troop. Senior year was a bit better because we moved overseas and I went to a tiny international school (graduating class of 15 students). Like most high schoolers, I kinda just existed.
College, however, was a blast for me.

Woah I read about this earlier but didn't realize it hit so close to you Dave. Glad your daughter is okay and I will take a moment of silence for the sad loss of life.

On the "it gets better": It does, and it's so, so stupid how adults say childhood's the best years of your life. I didn't believe that even when I was a kid--I couldn't wait to grow up, and I'd never wanna go through all that again.

I missed this while it was happening, but I definitely agree that Sammi's being incredibly strong and intelligent about this. Dave, I've said it before, but it bears repeating: Great job raising your daughter. Sammi, great job being you.

Late to the party. Everything that I could have said has already been said, from condolences on the loss of a friend and instructor, to compliments to Sammi's level-headedness and maturity in a time of crisis and mourning, to bemoaning the desire of WBC to once again troll America.
All things told, I feel that the best way to handle the trolls is to simply form a human shield between them and the grieving parties, with backs turned. Something like this would not be a normal mission for the Patriot Guard Riders, but given the fact that WBC will be in attendance, getting in contact with the local ride captain might be worth a call, Dave.

It is my extreme pleasure, and possibly sadistic little sense of humor, that Westboro Baptist Church is going to be 3 blocks away from the funeral service itself and will be completely out of sight. Basically, this is where we all do a little victory jig and giggle that their efforts are futile and their hate mongering will have no effect.

Sadly, this shooting got tossed off the front pages by another shooting in AZ - this time a congresswoman and a Federal judge.
Sometimes I wonder if the increase in this sort of crap comes from the general feeling of hope for the future by the populace of a country. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a way to do an accurate study about this.

sorry for the late comer (I was on vacation and post/read very little) I am glad everything turn out alright (With Sammi and everyone) I am glad you are with family and friends Sammi
