with monsters making a return and no regenerative health I don't think I will be on as much as I have been. oh well...it was a fun couple of months while it lasted.

Looks like the lag issue with monsters persists; however, I did manage to get in a pretty sweet shot of some serious slime action. There were actually a fair bit more, but I was unable to get a screenshot because Minecraft froze up on me.

I grabbed these screenshots a couple weeks ago, but I kept forgetting to upload them:

This is a very odd missing chunk I encounted. The water and tilled soil are still there, but everything else in the chunk is gone.

The missing chunk from below.

The next day I was exploring in a cave and got freaked out at some movement. I thought it was spiders, but then I realized it was just squid.

I fell into someone's "Suicide Hole" today. It was very annoying to plummet to my death on bedrock. I plugged up the hole.

Hopped back on real quick, and there was still some serious lag. figmentPez opined it may have been due to the slimes that persisted; any way to turn that off?

Hmm, No slimes should have persisted, after turning off monsters and rebooting the server, they should all be gone. Were you near the SDF 1? I wonder if the light bug has returned...?

Well, there were definitely slimes after the reboot. However, they couldn't harm me, nor I them. And yeah, at the SDF-1. Good thing I saved most of that dirt, in case it is the lighting bug.

Well, that's very odd. The slimes should not have been there after the reboot. If you can't lead them into a lava pool or something, I might have to restore a backup to get rid of them...

Yeah, just checked myself; no lag, no slimes. I encountered them at the very bottom of the pit, at various areas nearer to the circumference.

I also got an unpleasant reminder that updates and mods don't always mix... so be careful with fire.

Lol, no, this happened at the SDF-1. Fortunately, all the damage was restricted to the legs. Man, I am so glad I didn't replace the lapis blocks with blue wool, or that would have been tragic. Hilarious, but tragic.

Cleaned up my stuff from lot #6 and moved into moss's basement. The lot is in a pretty prime location and I'm sure others will make better use of it -- I just never could get around to build anything on it.

Oh, and the google map is updated with a snapshot from 2011-03-03. I also made the cartograph archive completely google hosted and ready for updates from several admins, who can also set up pages of their own. I know, I know. I just wanted to find a use for my fancy new domain :D

Everyone should give this seed a try for their singleplayer worlds: 3666440496532277820 . Truly, the king among kings of seeds.

(don't read the spoiler if you intend on trying it, obviously)

You spawn in a dungeon.

Anyone know if there's a way to use both the hold sign and a button for obsidian launchers? I'd like to be able to use a redstone current to override the hold sign, and then have the sign as backup.

How does one set the seed?

Holy crap. If you do that, do NOT set the difficulty to Normal. That place you spawn? SPIDERS!!!!

I got out. I started going up until I got to the surface.

I fought my way out! Made it to the surface, lasted through the night, only to get killed by a creeper in the morning.

Then I fought my way out again, and I'm preparing to go back in and show those spiders what for!

EDIT: Went back and blanketed the room with torches. The spawner remains, but has no darkness to spawn spiders in. I found a chest containing 4 Iron, 1 Bread, 4 Wheat, 4 String and 1 Saddle.

From our pals at multiplay - apparently there are some issues with 1.3 (surprise surprise)

Minecart Mania
Mar 07 2011 06:32:21 by Tomcat
This addon has been disabled as a safety measure for minecraft 1.3 with hMod as it is the next on the list of addons making 5+GB log files on the server. This will be reinstated once we can investigate how to stop the large log file issue.
This is the third such addon (though the first that affects us) to be disabled for this purpose in the last few days. Hopefully they fix their hmod's logging issues soon, but until then, I doubt any of our boosters, dispensers or launchers will work.

It's a long walk from central transit to playa del halforum.

Odd, I just checked, and minecart mania is still functioning... maybe it will continue to do so if we don't restart the server... and I guess our log file hasn't gotten big enough for multiplay to notice and restart us themselves yet...

Ok, I checked again... our server logs were over 8 gigs in size and growing. I went ahead and deleted them (which required shutting down the server) and it automatically removed minecart mania. Minecarts now function as in vanilla again.

To compensate for this (hopefully temporary) decrease in mobility, I've enabled the /warp command for all verified (green level) users. There are a scattering of strategically placed warps you can now warp to, and you can see the list of available warps by typing /listwarps. for example, to get to the central transit building, you would type /warp centraltransit ... to get to playa, you would type /warp beachresort , and so on.

There's also a chunk loading issue in 1.3 that makes warp have the same problem as when using /home or /spawn from a great distance - that being that the chunks load in very slowly and keep you standing around immobile for a long time, hanging in limbo. I find it faster to just log out and back in and go from there after warping or homing or spawning.

If anyone has a reasonable destination request to be added to the warps, let me know. I don't intend to have a warp to everyone's doorstep, but if there's a notably big/distant location that you think needs a warp, speak up.

For now, the plan is just to use this until Minecart Mania is available again, then return to normal. But naturally, there's no ETA on that right now.

Aw man, and I just finished the railway to my island hideaway.
(not a plea for a warp, just whinging)

Using the warp command, I noticed the chunk loading pretty quickly; I'd say around two seconds, which is a vast improvement compared over my times before. Maybe the chunk loading issues had to do with the server logs, then?

So, logged in to work on my tower that I've been putting off. Tower has been turned completely to smooth stone and half my torches were missing and the other half moved around.
When all is said and done I don't really mind, but what I do care about is that I was not asked first. I would like an explanation and an apology from the responsible party.

That's my fault. I was messing around with some admin commands over by Bones' place, horsing with his sky message and I inadvertently turned your entire tower to glass. When I went to fix it, I guess I thought it was regular stone originally instead of cobblestone for some reason, and I had to replace the torches by hand because they detached from the walls spontaneously when it went glass.

Sorry about that, totally my bad, I'll turn it back to cobble.

There, the stone inside your cloth shell should all be back to cobblestone now.

I'm really liking the new Tectonicus map renders. Thanks for finding that and figuring out how to use it, it's a real help and encouragement to build.

I'm thinking maybe a Saturn V rocket or something. Do we have a space program yet?

Good to hear! Was beginning to think I was the only one who cared about it.

I should mention, though, that after a week of rendering, compressing and writing increasingly complex batch scripts*, Overviewer still had a stupidly superior size/quality ratio. So we never switched to Tectonicus, actually.

I took the opportunity to establish a sort of method to the madness, however, and Overviewer was also finally updated in the interim. Long story short, we now have more frequent updates and a happier noax :)

*because I'm too crap at it to make them simple.

Well, a couple flying saucers, a corellian freighter with an unreliable hyperdrive, and a space robot the size of a city... but not sure all that makes a "program."

OHH, that's cool then. I do wish I could build in smooth stone but there is no way I'm going to waste the time and resources to do so. And I like my stuff to be uniform :)

That's why many of my constructions contain banks of 12 or 16 furnaces :p

And you should have seen the doozy of an oops I did last night... I attempted to make a glass cylinder 10 meters in radius and 40 meters high... and accidentally made a lava ring 1 meter high and 40 meters in radius. Luckily I made it over water, but cleanup was a huge hassle and I think a little bit of Bones' stuff got caught in it.

I think I'm about done trying to figure out that stuff, it's neat and all but with great power comes great... accidents. Just gonna leave it alone.

So a lot of alien and commie stuff, and nothing made in the good ol' USA? By gum we've got to do something about that. Those bastards got Sputnik up first, but they won't ride the first pig on the moon, not on my watch!
