First, fuck you, Portal 2.

Second, my reasons.

  1. DLC for things that should not be DLC. (Things like headwear, GESTURES!!, etc.)
  2. The whole Potato Sack thing was a huge mindfuck. The game was never coming out early.
  3. I can't afford it.
  4. They released it on a Tuesday. This in itself is not a bad thing, but it's also WoW's maintenance day so while the fucking world is playing Portal 2 I can't be mining nodes in Uldum all alone.
Fuck Portal 2.

Don't games always release on a Tuesday? I'm pretty sure they always release on a Tuesday. Or at least almost always.

Almost primarily Tuesdays, yeah, along with movies.

Also, I hate Portal 2 because:

1) My laptop can't run it.
2) I'd get it on PS3 but I just can't get comfortable playing FPS games without a keyboard and mouse.

I haven't heard much about this yet. Is it the TF2 model of things? The game told me last night that I'd found one of my hats from TF2, but I could never find it to equip. I figured the servers were totally overloaded and I'd figure it all out later.

Personally I'd much prefer having these cosmetic items as DLC than having overpriced map-packs.

$2 to be able to shrug? and it won't even be viewable to PS3 players? Yeah, I'm going to laugh while not paying for that. I wonder if stuff like that will drop randomly like it does in TF2.

Ugh. It's the fucking TF2 hats shit all over again.
Valve is going to be rolling in dough over this. It astounds me how much money people are willing to throw at them for this stuff.

That's the saddest part: people WILL buy it. Just look at the people that waste money on Playstation Home. I've gone in there once or twice and the sheer number of people wearing costumes that were $10 or more is ridiculous.

Well, to be fair, the only people still using Home are the people that do buy shit like that. I'm happy knowing I never will.

I feel burned every time I play Bioware's DLC, and those are what 5 bucks? I'm not touching 2 dollar gestures with a 1200 foot pole.

This is beyond stupid shit... do people actually buy this crap?

I mean, for Mass Effect 2 at least my 5 dollars got me some new storyline and a few hours of actual gameplay.

$2 to shrug? Thumbs up? Facepalm? That right there is stuff that should be in the game as default content.

It certainly seem like a tough sell to any sane person. I don't think they are owed to the players in any way. It is extra content, which is fine. The price point is simply outrageous.

I don't really have a problem with it, since it's as far from being necessary or even helpful to complete the game as possible...

...oh snap, didn't buy the emoticon!

I guess their thinking is, if they can get 2000 people to pay up, then they've probably more than made their money back in the labor involved to make the content. They certainly will get ridiculed for it, but probably not enough that they care all that much.

Have you seen the price point for hats in the TF2 store? $17.49 for a Christmas Tree hat (that currently has bugged animation so it doesn't even look right). Lots of hats are over $15. I could get a real hat for that much, I'm certainly not going to pay that much for a virtual hat.

It's possible that if they made them cheap they'd make even more money, but then the hats wouldn't be as special, and I get the impression that's what they're going for.

I don't see anything wrong with it. You don't need it to beat the game, after all.

It's just another customization option. Not a particularly interesting one, but w/e. If you consider it worth it, buy it, otherwise don't and be solvent for it.

Seems like the shrugs would maybe be useful if you didn't have a headset.
Anywho, I just bought mine for the 360, we'll see how it goes. I don't really care if they're selling extras that don't affect gameplay - I won't be bothering with them.

Sure, but could they be counting even more money if they priced things differently?
Sadly, I imagine there is at least one person, if not an entire department of people, whose sole job is to determine the market value of such things as to maximize revenue based on a pricing/demand chart.
