not so serious but I want to rant II: Redemption

Alberta's doing the same, one day it's 3 degrees and raining, the next it's an intensely muggy 31. Fuck this shit.

Also, I just had a nightmare that my friend's old dog bit my dick and balls off. It was followed by me being intensely angry and strapped to a hospital bed. I woke up feeling worse than I have in a long time. Did my brain just hormone dump some shit on me while I slept?

I think I'm going to jerk off now 2 or 3 times in celebration of still having my dick and both balls.

I'm just giving him some shit; I distinctly remember NR scoffing about schools shutting down for a couple inches of snow. Shoes on the other foot in the summer time. :D
Once it would have been funny. Now you're just begging for a re-run of the old days. You know, back when you had that persona...?

How people react to heat is, quite frankly, a subjective issue. I dislike temperatures in excess of 25 C, except in saunas. Combine that with humidity, little to no wind and the fact that the sun (and the temperature) starts to rise at 3am, and you have a situation where sleeping is somewhat difficult, for me personally. That is what I was ranting about. Now, consider how an entire community starts panicking over a piddly few inches of snow... well, that's another kettle of fish entirely. Sorry, old bean, but weak troll is weak troll.

I hate having to get up at a 6. makarage at its finest.

(Yes I know some people get up at five and hit the gym and eat breakfast and cure cancer or whatever the fuck but I do not care.)

Lovely 9° C (48° F) here, had the heat off for almost 6 weeks. It just needs to stop raining, the whole 5-8 days of solid rain, followed by a brief moment of sunshine, were everyone tries to mow the 18 inches of grass that grew is getting rather old.

On Wednesday we had a 36C day (96F) with a humidex of 42C (107F). It gets warmer up here than people think. Last couple of days have been a bit chilly for this time of year though. Only around 20C or so. I have no rant in regards to the weather. More just boasting.

Hey Wisconsin, keep your political ads outta my state! I don't care who Shelly Moore is, or why she's yelling all the time, I can't vote for her anyways. Great use of campaign funds though.

I don't even know who Shelly Moore is. :p

Shame we don't have a recall election here, though. There's only been one vote I've agreed with the idiot representing me, and it involved beer. (Side note on Grothman, my state representative- he told my friend Nick there were no gay people when he was in high school, that homosexuality is a new phenomenon. Think on that for a bit.)

I'm not trying to troll you at all. It was all light hearted banter.

I scoff at your couple inches of snow, too. :)
Hey we here in PA get a solid foot before we start making mad dashes to the grocery store for milk, bread, and eggs!

Hmm. We have a Shelly Moore Capito down here. Congresswoman. Daughter of convicted felon and ex-governor Arch Moore. Joke.

OK, military people, you say you want the bar open so you can come watch the Stanley Cup game and then you don't show up. I can't run the bar at a loss, folks. If you say you're going to show, then damn well show up or else I won't have any reason to open it beyond the normal hours. Stupid, spoiled, selfish...<grumble>

This one is running against a recalled Republican, haven't looked into it beyond that.

I think that depends on what part of PA. If you're near Philly, when a snowflake hits your windshield you start crying that the roads are a mess.

Feh, they do that here in Saskatoon.
They do that everywhere. A place can get 10ft/year and they'd still drive like morons at the barest skiff of snow.

But c'mon, it's been really nice weather lately in Saskatoon (week or so). A bit warmer than I prefer at night, but still. Even today is supposed to be 23C, even if it is kinda-sorta supposed to rain.

I'll admit for most of the year it's been colder than it should though.

So my bank decided to institute a new $10 monthly fee on my checking account. I can get around that by either having direct deposit (Yeah, right. try convincing the owner to spend the money and time to set that up so one guy can avoid his bank fees.) or have a $1500 average monthly balance (and have that sword hanging over my head?). Not gonna happen.

So I decided to take my business elsewhere. Not as easy as I thought. Only a couple of the banks in town accept ATM deposits, the one I just left, and one I didn't want to do business with. After an hour or so of running around to ask questions at the branches I would actually be dealing with, I finally got a new account going with the first one I'd considered. At least they were able to get me going with a new ATM card right away.

But you'd think 13 years as an account holder, even a small checking account like mine, would be worth something. Apparently they thought it would be worth an extra $10 a month. They were wrong.

Do you have a mortgage or terms with them? If your average monthly balance was less than $1500, you were likely costing them money by being an account holder. They'll gain more than they lost by having you leave, sorry.

I think I use the same bank. They also don't charge you monthly if you have a direct deposit of $550 or more per month. Maybe that could be a solution? It seems reasonable to me.

If that bank doesn't work out, try USAA. Since you were in the military you should be able to get an account with them. They don't have branch offices around the country, but their service is awesome. Also you can scan in checks for deposit using your smartphone.

I've been working here for 2 months and still haven't been able to start working on my actual job. Meanwhile, I've spent most of my time gathering and crunching data on various forums and their (general lack of) usefulness. I usually don't mind, because it's better than sitting around doing absolutely nothing and I actually like data crunching, but my latest project is pure stupidity. We're checking every single thread related to certain keyword searches to see which ones dead-end due to bad links. Of the bad links I've found so far, 99% can be traced back to one of two causes; 1) we removed a page when we combined its data with another page's or 2) the thread is 2+ years old.

Unfortunately, because we're working on data discovery before deciding what to do about any bad links, regardless of why they're dead, that means that instead of being able to say "Hey, most of these threads dead-end because they're several years old and are no longer applicable to the service, we should delete them," I get to submit a report with hundreds of thread URLs and say "These all point to the following dead links." Compounding matters is the fact that some of the search terms are as generic as "folder." Do you have any idea how many Windows users have asked questions related to folders? I do.

tl/dr

While it's better than sitting around doing nothing, my latest project is to search for such ambiguous terms as "folder" on a forum that's 3+ years old and compile a report of all threads that point to dead links. I'm currently on page 15 of 100 of threads referencing the word "folder."
