Today's made me laugh.

I really want to go to Ren Fest again. Maybe my health will be good enough to go next year. (Heck, while I'm dreaming, maybe the girl I'm crushing on will reveal her secret love for me and we can go together! :confused: I can't decide if I want to be optimistic or pessimistic today.)

I am going to be super honest here, in a place where I fear I may be hated for my honesty.

Here we go: I don't get the appeal of the renfest.

*whew* that feels good to get it off my chest.

Honestly, I want to go once to say that I've gone. The thought of going as a spectator appeals to me more than participating. I used to want to try, but I guess I lost interest. Liked today's comic. Reminded me of the Home Movies episode about a Renaissance Fair. "MERLIN HAS A PHONE! BURN HIM!" :rofl:

No hate from me. I like the food, the shops and some of the shows (Ded Bob is/was hilarious). I'm not into wearing a costume, though it's fun to see other people in them. The one time I did go, I went with three friends who were in costume, while I was in street clothes and I had a blast.

I can see how that stuff doesn't appeal to everyone, or how they'd rather get the same/similar stuff elsewhere.

I've found the RenFaires to be mostly sites and shopping, and less LARP type of situations than people would have you believe.

Most of them - unless they are well funded - are kinda lame. They are rife with vendors trying to sell you crap and others trying to sell you cool things you can't afford. And a lot of the times the place is very (jarringly even!) anachronistic, with knights and pirates and gypsies and anything else they think geeks would like all kinda jumbled together.

Last one I went to had a cool moment, though. A girl who had been a total bitch to my son at a knife/sword booth was goofing around with someone else and acting like she was fighting with bared blades dropped her dagger, impaling her foot. Found out from a friend that she was fine but she had to go to the hospital with a dagger sticking out of her foot while wearing a "sultry maiden" outfit that was two sizes too small.

Good times, good times.

I have never understood the allure - alleged - of Octopus Pie. In fact, I'd go so far as to say I think it mostly sucks.

I go to the ren fest every year if I can. I never dress in costume, and nobody gives me shit about my technowitchery. The texas renfest is pretty well funded (so was the colorado one, when I lived there)... it's usually a fun afternoon.

For me, PVP operates on a Tues to Saturday schedule because when I check my RSS at 8/9AM, it hasn't updated. I'm okay with this because usually I only get one new comic on Saturdays (Sinfest) but now I get two!
