*sigh* Do we REALLY have to have that goddamn argument again?

Oh, I know there are no new ideas. Some are just more blatant about lifting material than others.

It was a very shiny Pocahontas Dances with Wolves And Space Marines. I bring Wes Studi as my Proof Card. You know, the Native American actor who played the chief who gets kilt?

I thought then and now that it was a great CGI demo reel with Insert-A-Plot liberally sprayed everywhere.

While the movie itself may not have been to everyone's liking, I think a ride based on it might have potential. Seeing life-sized animatronic versions of the creatures from the movie jump out at you might be kind of cool.

Avatar, to date, is the only film that has made the 3D price hike on a movie ticket worth it. Would I purchase it for a home theatre situation? Not a chance.

Don't get me wrong, it was overhyped all to hell. While it may have deserved the Academy Awards for special effects, that's all it should've been nominated for. When I say it was an actiony popcorn flick, I mean that in the same sense as all the other "turn your brain off and look at the pretty colours" kind of overbudgeted stuff like it.

Derivative as all hell, too. Not just in the Native American allegory vs. the American allegory. The technology used by the miliatary all looked like re-runs from other Cameron movies.

That said, it's still a fun, eye-popping ride. Overhyped, but harmless. I'd watch it again over Transformers anyday.

Well, if I watch pocahontas, I'd rather watch it with space marines and sci-fi war scenes!

I love the war song from Pocahontas though, and we didn't get that in Avatar.

I'm sure someone could edit that in Adobe Premiere...which song was that again?

You forgot the villain, who might as well be a cartoon character.

Can someone please tell me the purpose of Michelle Rodriguez's character? You know, besides being a bitchy woman in a tank top?

She's the placeholder for Morally Good Character Who Sacrifices Herself For The Protagonists So That Their Struggle Feels Important.

It's pretty scary how more and more the concept of hyper-reality is dominating and seeping into the mainstream as the go to for entertainment.

I'm always torn about places like Disney World. Part of me is all for the fantasy of it; the other part says it's a sham and my money would be more worthwhile to use on a vacation that isn't in a fake-world.

I'd say it's worth going to Disney World/Land at least once in your life, if only to experience how surreal it actually is.

But how does this apply to Michelle Rodriguez?

I remember now why I never liked philosophy in school, because reading that article, all I could think of was "this sounds like bullshit."

What are you talking about? It's a clear philosophy employed by Casinos to trick people into dumping their money away like it's just paper. Advertising is a utilization of hyper-reality all the time, so is pornography. Ever see super ice blue mountain Gatorade, or XTREME cornnuts? That's hyper-reality.

There is no such thing that occurs in nature that's the flavor of ice blue Gatorade. It's a made up concept solely for the purpose of advertising a thing that's made to be more than what nature offers: "It's colder than cold."

Porn is sexier than sexy. It's a complete over saturation of what sex is.
