[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

We'll get use to it. Every time he goes through a change in style it's a little awkward at first. I wasn't a big fan of his realistic look when he started it but after awhile I felt like it was some of the best art he produced. I think he would grow bored if he didn't change it up on occasion. And I'm sure drawing the Trenches is influencing his art style.

I read the last 2 weeks of strips. Against my better judgement. Just to see if anything was remotely salvagable.

Nope, it's gotten worse since I stopped reading 2yrs ago. His art style is no where near consistant. It changes day to day, sometimes panel to panel. It's distracting. None of the dialogue even made me crack a mental smile. His characters aren't as "characterized" as they were back then. They seem almost homogonized and tame compared to what they used to be. PvP is a shell of it's former self, with almost better artwork, sometimes.

Cole only looks a little different to me. Brent's style isn't doing anything for me, but frankly, that's been true for a while. I liked it when we pretty much never saw Brent's eyes. The recent strips have had them peeking out from behind the glasses all the time. That's good every once in a while for expression or something, but Brent's shades are still there for a reason, I think. Even though he's gotten a lot softer, he still likes to hide his reactions behind the dark lenses and maintain some image of "cool." I guess this new style's sort of doing that, but he looks weird to me. They look like they belong in 2 different strips. It's not horrible, and like Steve says, it'll feel like the new norm soon enough I guess.

I will never criticize anyone for trying to develop and do something different. The actual final product may not really work for me, but kudos to Scott for branching out. If his new attempts at creating a style gets his creative juices flowing and gets him re-invested in his work, he should keep at it.

He's said on Twitter that having tried it for a few days, he's gonna make a few changes to Brent, like bringing back his triangle nose.

I rather like the new designs, although the lack in change of Jade is kind of boring. I am, however, amused at the impetus of this change, which basically boils down to "drawing is too much work."

To me it sounded like "Searching for the right photo poses to trace every day is too much work. I should try this drawing thing again."

I think it is totally reasonable to take a step back and say "wow, I haven't actually been making the kind of art I want to make, let's switch it up." I don't think it's necessary to decry either style as lame, just different.

It also didn't hurt to have something approaching an actual joke behind it, and who doesn't love a good stereotype? Throw that in as a bonus.

.... and here we are back in familiar territory. Look, I like genital humor as much as the next fella, but this one was a complete dud to me.

*sigh*

Did he forget that the comic should be funny? Well, he was doing okay for bit. Now he's back into a rut.

I didn't even see a joke in that strip. It feels like he just overheard this conversation and typed it in.

Also, I see the DVD is back up for sale, so maybe it can fail to be sent to some people again.

I assumed it was referencing any douche add, and they're all generally stupid (though Sumers Eve is notoriosly bad). But even assuming/knowing that, I really fail to find the funny today. It just felt really poorly thought out.

And for the record, douching and the like are more harmful to the area than helpful.

For the record, I think the largest portion of Scott's audience is male and, well, we guys know little to nothing about the female plumbing system, other than it feels good to stick things into it. Hell, ask a guy sometime how he thinks a woman pees and just listen in wonder at the answers you are given...

Sounds like why so many women who are with PVP's male audience are dissatisfied. :p

Educate yourselves! This is the internet--the world is at your fingertips!

Fair enough. But. Just because the bulk of your audience belongs to one particular demographic does not mean you should be (or behave) utterly ignorant about everybody who isn't 'the norm'. If anything, it should be the opposite!

Woah woah woah... let's not start acting like women are people.

<Chanelling his inner Kurtz>

Fuck you guys. That was funny.

(Honestly, I thought it was funny. I love the "locking up" bit.)
