[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

The strip was an excellent piece of work, but offset by Scott talking out his ass again in his comments. The art spoke volumes, was it really necessary to go and attack newspapers?

I hate to agree with Mr. 'I'M KILLIN' NEWSPAPERS Y'ALL, NO WAIT LUV ME GUISE', but most editorial comics do in fact suck a fuck. I can only imagine what bland bullshit was turned out (I say this because to actually look at them would require I either open a paper or find out if/where they're displayed online, but I have better things to do - like scratch my balls, say).

Basically all of them depicted Jobs at the Pearly Gates and St. Peter frequently had an iPad. HILARIOUS. Some have criticised this particularly because Jobs was Buddhist, and so why depict him in the afterlife of a religion he didn't follow? I think there's some validity to that, although by the same token I don't think it was a malicious/evangenlical act on the part of the artists, as that is our society's conventional depiction for the afterlife, and doesn't necessarily carry the weight of Christian proselytizing.

But yes. Bland, predictable and the same gag over and over.

Bland, predictable, boring--and I didn't know about the religion thing, but now that it's mentioned, that's just stupid. Not malicious, but still offensive in its own ignorant way. I'd understand struggling if he was an atheist, but he clearly had another spirituality...

Ah, why am I complaining. Those political cartoonists are from a time when everyone was Christian far as they knew and they made sure never to know more than that.

Wow today's was bad. In so many ways. Yesterday made me laugh but today's seemed like he had way more important things to do than PVP.

Yeah, I mean yesterday's reflects a moment we've all had as a geek, when even we are kind of embarrassed by our friends' behavior - as they no doubt have of our own. Today's was just lame. No wonder it was on time, it took literally no effort. A few copypasta panels and three words. "Hey guys, I give so little of a shit about this comic today, this is what I'm posting."

Mead is funny to say.

Try it.

Mead.

Mead.

See? hysterical!

Mead.

Adding..I think the guy in Thursday's comic looks like the Trenches guy...maybe...

MEAD!

I was at the doctor's office yesterday and while waiting saw a local paper. I haven't read the local paper in years. So I opened to the comic section to see if there was anything worth reading. You want to talk about dialing it in. Family Circus had Dolly walking inside carrying a stick while asking "Is this a magic wand or just a stick?" Dennis the Menace had Mr. Wilson shoving unopened envelopes into the trash saying "This is how I delete junk mail." Dilbert had an office meeting where Alice said "Hurry up and end this meeting. She's a food werewolf" referring to a coworker sitting next to her. "If she doesn't eat soon she'll turn into a werewolf." Woman turns. "Too late." Garfield had Jon call out "Garfield can you come here?" 2nd panel Garfield appears and says "Yes." Third panel Jon is alone.
And those were the best four of the lot. Seriously I wanted to get Kevorkianed after reading that garbage.

Maybe Scott's newspaper-denial-envy has run full circle and now he wants to put in the same amount of work that they do while collecting "all that syndication money".

To be honest, of these three new characters I only like the LARPing diminutive lady... can't remember her name for the life of me. The obvious straight man of the group (the one who looks like he has a clip-on nose) is so far without character, and I admit severely disliking this "Alan" figure. He just seems like, I dunno, Sheldon Cooper's less funny psychopath cousin or something.

Magic has terms for the different types of player they have: Timmy, Johnny, and Spike. Timmy is the type of player who just does it for the experience and fun of the game. Johnny plays so he can create something new or interesting, and therefore the game is a form of expression. Spike is the type of player who only cares about winning. I think Scott is trying to do a comic arc that plays with those types.

It's just not that funny.
