Fuck am I glad I no longer do general duty. This pile of excrement being pushed forward by our current autocracy is a fucking disgrace. Mandatory sentences for marijuana growers than for sexually assaulting a toddler, in fact, you'd have to sexually assault a toddler with a deadly weapon in order to get a longer sentence than a man with 5 pot plants. All for what? To fill the new fucking jails he's building. Our crime rate is falling BUT WE NEED TOUGHER SENTENCES ON MINOR CRIMES. Longer sentences produces institutionalized career criminals. That's what we need to do. Turn a guy growing some weed for he and his friends into a fucking lifelong criminal.

It failed in the US, and it's going to fucking fail here. Hell, I can almost get on board with the conspiracy theorists that say that Harper's current job is make a North American union an easier transition. He's so fucking keen on emulating every shitty decision the US has made in the last 20 years. The war on drugs is one of the fucking worst, yet here we go, full steam ahead.

When I hear Harper or another Conservative member talk about receiving a mandate from the Canadian people (39% of the vote is all that's needed for this mandate) it makes me ill. Talk to a mountie Canadians, ask one how good they think this bill is. UGH.

I'm so disappointed about this.

I was opposed to this platform. The cost of this is unjustifiable in light of our low and declining crime rates. Ffffffffffffffuck this pandering bullshit.

Jailing a pot farmer, lets say he is really growing only for own use, will turn him into a career criminal.he will have problems getting a Job anywhere, even if he is highly skilled (even moreso),which leads him to only one alternative. He knows how to grow weed and he probably made connections while in jail.So to stay afloat he will now grow Marijuana in larger quantities, with intent to sell.

Community service and fines is way more effective then sticking someone in jail.

5 pot plants? My understanding is that it's a bigger sentence for someone with at least 210 pot plants for the purposes of trafficking to a maximum of 14 years. Sexual assault before this bill, as explained in the article, usually had sentences of 18 months which is now much higher. Seems like there's a lot of speculation on the bill when the details, while harsh, are still pretty practical.

When even Texas is telling you you're going overboard in criminalizing drugs, you know there might be a problem.
