Ok. That's not an unreasonable position. Harry Partridge ain't Shakespeare. But let's not pretend that a) you are a connoisseur of only the most erudite of literate works, and that b) the reason you don't like the video is it was specifically designed to piss you, exactly you, you in particular, piss you off.
A) I can agree with, b) misses the mark, I love pointed jabs at the lesbian communities when they are actually well written and funny. This wasn't funny at all, and not because it was aimed at me, but because it was again, shitty writing wrapped around well worn retreads of stale stereotypes lacking any real insight.

That's not an observation, that's an opinion.

Maybe you missed the post about two pages back where I said I regretted what I said. The rest was just explanation. You can explain something without condoning.
When you explain why you're not wrong for saying something stupid, you don't really regret it.

I don't really think you follow the point at hand. You look like an idiot because you make uninformed observations based on limited exposure with how much research on the issues being discussed? If you were say, a desk jockey for a radio station, I'd let it slide, but you are after all, a professor. But then again, that's my opinion

Incorrect on several fronts. 1) I never said I wasn't wrong. Again, see the previous post where I said you can explain something without condoning it. You're editing in the wasn't wrong part. 2) You can regret saying something without thinking what you said was wrong.

The funny thing is, that as I've said about a billion times in this thread, I couldn't care less about your gender identity. It doesn't offend me in any way whatsoever. I observed things in life and questioned the origin based on those observations. I stated nothing as definitive (used the phrase "rings of"...perhaps should've stated as a question). I question a lot of things. I question your reason for growing a beard, Null, based on my observations of beard-wearing humans. I question why people drink PBR. I apologize for the way I worded it. That was rude. I meant no value judgement.THAT is the professor, Amy. You all interpreted it as an attack, and it's my fault for phrasing it as one.

Well, I hope you took your time to click the "dislike" button then. Frankly, it didn't seem any more infantile than your average Beavis and Butthead. But there, different sacred cows are getting harpooned I guess.

You phrased it as an attack, professor. If you of all people can't concisely articulate your intent and meaning the first time, then harshing on anyone who misinterprets you is just silly.

I know that I usually have to write multiple drafts before I get it all right. Concise articulation the first time might be a tad unfair of a standard for anyone.

I just admitted and apologized for that.

You know what bugs me the most, and makes me argue about this? I've known some of you for 7 years now online, and you should know that I'm the guy who usually comes to the defense of special interest groups. A little benefit of the doubt would have been nice.

I know! I almost said something about it! But it's so enthralling to watch!

Justifications are not apologies, and saying "Everyone I've met you acts like you is basically a douchebag, no offense" doesn't leave a lot of room for benefit of the doubt.

Drafts are different from posts, yes?
I would say so, in that posts are usually off the cuff and rarely revised, while drafts are kept private through their many revisions. I'm just sayin' there should be a little bit of slack for people here when folks put their foot in their mouth.

They run out of slack after they've eaten the third toe.

No, the apology was the apology.

It is MY turn to take offense. I never said that people who force themselves to do something because they feel it is against societal impositions are douchebags. In fact, I've been friend and teacher to many of them. I merely questioned if this was another example. Feel free to check my posts. Not once did I say that those were bad things. That is YOUR interpretation.

So, professor, enlighten us as to the specific connotation you were going for by characterizing people as thus. The popular perception would seem to be "poseurs who have no idea what they think they're representing", but you claim that's not what you're going for.

So what did you mean by that?

I disagree. I think holding each other to higher standards than off the cuff gives the conversations more value, especially in topics like this.

poor fade he has now had to resort to "some of my best friends...."
I had 5 seconds in the pool for how long that would take. I guess I was off by about 20. If it makes you feel any better, then I was that person for a long time, then.

I actually just meant leftist people who support controversial things. But of course you won't believe that. I was kind of wondering why you quoted that earlier as offensive.

Che shirts as controversial? They sell them at the fucking GAP.
And there is controversy. Seriously dude, I'm all for aggressive confrontation, but as far as this thread goes, you need to spend some time working that bedpost out of your ass already. And this is coming from me.

Eh, whatever. I know what I meant. I've explained it. I've apologized for a poor choice of words. (Yes, you can do both, and truly mean both.) The jury cast their vote. So be it.
