GUYS! Guys! I have a very important question!

When I get my hair dyed next week do I go with

(A) More red, ala a more vibrant shade of what I curently have.
(B) Orange, like Florence Welch.
(C) Blonde. I haven't been blonde in years...I'm not sure if it suit my very pale skin.
(D) Back to brunette.
(E) Something totally different.
E - Bright Green.

I've been reading some TVTropes, and I get a little offended when I click on Literature catagory for a trope and all I see is page after page of...

Star Wars Expanded Universe books, or Drizzt.

...do books that are basically Fan Fic's belong under literature?

Alas, these days if it's published on a dead tree, it's "literature." Not saying it's right, but that it's been the case (at least in the academic world) for some time now. Lamentably.

The Star Wars Expanded Universe is pretty tightly monitored by people selected by Lucas. It's generally considered canon, except when a movie or game overrides it. They've already included elements of it into some of the games. So no, it's not fucking fan fiction.

Well, except for Troy Denning's work.

It would be your way of restoring balance to the universe.
I actually don't care when adult women read it, because most of them understand that it's just a romance novel... it's not supposed to be a guide for your own relationships. But she talks about the characters as if they were wise and some sort of model. That's when books like that scare me. Without thinking, I called them inappropriate in front of a group of girls today, and their little faces fell. I didn't elaborate, though...

I don't worry that much. She's got really level-headed parents. On the other hand, they're letting her read this book. Eh, she's little. I might have believed unrealistic garbage at that age too if I'd been interested in romance at all. Guess we'll see what unfolds.

How mean would it be to convince a 9-year-old student that reading Twilight will actually undo some of the benefits of this expensive education that her parents are providing?
I know it's kind of a joke, but honestly? I wouldn't. As a teacher myself, I'd be thrilled the kid is actively reading in the first place. Whether or not I think the book is a literary treasure is irrelevant to the fact that the child is reading for pleasure. With increasing numbers of students being unable to read at a basic level, I'd probably go out and buy the kid the entire series.

I was talking with a close friend who works in a medical lab about that. There is a study, which I dont have a link to(sorry) that if I remember correctly stated the majority of American ADULTS can not read above the 9th grade level. this is scary because this means information has to be written for the lowest common denominator.

Pfft, if you're in advertising, you have to write at the 5th grade level.

I run into this on police reports - I occasionally get mine kicked back because the sergeant reading it doesn't understand some of my verbiage. *headwheel*

Fucking why?
So it can display photo slideshows!

I'm actually not sure what all it does. The only really useful thing I know it can do is set the fridge in a temporary "max cool" mode if you know you're putting something hot in the fridge. It also has tables of measurement conversions, but those would only be useful if the interface weren't slow as molasses.

Mostly it just seems to be a replacement for any sort of mechanical controls for temperature and whatnot.

I can't wait till they make your toilets scan your poop so your toilet can bitch about all the crap you've been eating and then tell the kitchen to suggest other stuff.

Feels like we're gonna need a Cosplay Discussion Thread since the actual cosplay thread will soon just be Pez's posts and those of cosplayers, and the impact of others will be solely to "Like" a post or not.
