I cringe when I see users running 19"+ monitors at 800x600. Some of these are actually using 1900x1080 monitors set that low, so the icons will be bigger.

Also, remember that Macromedia Flash (Adobe didn't buy it till 2005) was just being introduced in 96, and really didn't catch on until broadband became more common.
