[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

If he had based the character off Mark Pincus or Zuckerberg or something, that would have been a lot better.

Or anyone who's ever gotten skewered in Gutters.

He said on twitter the character is part Zuckerburg and a few others. I call bullshit. It's 100% Jean Ralphio. The funny thing is if had just tweaked the character a little bit this wouldn't be an issue but it's a damn photocopy of him.

Voila! He is no longer Ralphio.

Well at least he had that three-day weekend... which, you know, bullshit. When you're self-employed, what does a government holiday have to do with it? That's generally for banks, schools, post offices, etc. Heck, I work at a college and we were open.

You mean the lack of it?

I apologize for my douchey comment. It is now up. :p
Why apologize for something that was "expected" this morning, and didn't end up on the web until after business hours for most of the country? He got it up around 5pm-ish west coast time? For somebody that was going to use the "long weekend" to get ahead....

The new PATV episode is about Jerry, Mike and Scott writing The Trenches. Pretty entertaining, especially the part where they go into how Mike and Scott both like plus size girls and the comments they make right after.

Also, holy shit, if you haven't yet and you like Skyrim, the newer Blam is hilarious.

Neither the blams nor the PATV loads for me. Oh, it'll play the fucking ad every time, but never the actual video.

I am not a huge fan of the new site design, if only because sites that put their main-and-only content behind a link so twice as many ads get loaded irk me on principle (have the same issue with the PA site, and when Gawker did their last re-design). It's not a deal-breaker or anything silly like that, it just rubs me the wrong way.

I'm totally okay with all the merch links, and extra stuff that is mostly below the fold anyways, but obvious pageview bait...eh, it's a thing with me.

Well, good thing Trenches gets larger billing than his 'real' comic, because nothing celebrates mediocrity more than that waste of bits. This isn't a site upgrade, this is the Yahoo-ization of PVP.

The Trenches actually started to grow on me, but it updates too infrequently for me to really remember to follow it or care. I do like the tales from the trenches section, though.

The Treches hasn't missed an update. I actually find it to be funny. :) Not as good as PA but better than PVP.

I know it's never missed an update. Gabe and Tycho would never allow that to happen. But it only updates once a week, and for the style story they are telling, that's too slow for my taste.

The lead character's interview for the job lasted a month.

No, it's always been two days a week. And yes, the only reason he hasn't missed an update is because Gabe and Tycho have their names on it too and they would throw his ass out if he missed an update.

Nothing like riding on the success of better artists to pad your ego...

Just read through the entire run of Trenches. Characters are so un-memorable I can't even tell you one of their names and I read it all less than 5 minutes ago.

Huh, I could have sworn it was once a week when it originally launched.

this kind of design makes perfect sense for penny arcade. for pvp? no way.

Looking at the penny arcade main page, we have a link to the comic. and the other link buttons go to stuff like say... PATV. and a forum. STUFF WITH MORE CONTENT. then theres the links to the PA scholarship and the new PA report.

But most of all? theres a huge-ass newspost to go with the comic. every. single. time. scotts page has big ads for stuff in the store cluttering up the main page. I do like the layout of the 'meet the cast page', but for the love of god, if you're running a webcomic thats running well over ten years, a daily-strip search needs some other kind of search function (and I wish PA still had the drop down bar too. but at least they still have tag-search)

to sum up... I don't really care for the redesign.

Seriously.

Straub's Twitter said:
dear complainants of blog on 1st page, comic in /comic subdirectory: bookmark the subdirectory. thanks and welcome to 2003

Does Straub really not get that people aren't pissed at the mechanics of it, they're pissed at the tone the change conveys? When the blog updates once a week at the most and still requires multiple page views to see more than one entry (it appears), it's just blatant trolling for pageviews. I truly thought better of Straub.

Wasn't there a PvP comic where he comments on how simply dividing the site to make double the views isn't good?
Yes and if I remember correctly he berated Penny Arcade for doing it in the first place. Then again, are we surprised by any of the hypocritical things that he does these days?

Oh and yeah, the new page looks like shit. There's no "PVP" on the PVP home page.
