Ugh...For the life of me I will never understand why Mason Raymond thought it was a good idea to attempt a hit on Kopitar. Even if he connected it still would have ended terribly for him.

Welp.

Guess the addition of one Sedin brother can affect an entire series.

Let's see how things stand:
  • Rags-Sens tied at two. Anyone's series at this point.
  • B's up 2-1 on the Caps. Win tonight (Thursday) by Boston and that series could be over.
  • Panthers up 2-1 on Devils. I actually saw this as a possibility. Tonight could be the penultimate game of Marty B's career.
  • Pens prevent a sweep, but Flyers still up 3-1 in series. I'm still thinking it's a foregone conclusion, but a 10-3 final has a way of deflating you.
  • Kings still up 3-1 on 'Nucks, but the Brothers Sedin will have something to say about that.
  • Blues up 2-1 on San Jose; Sharks tie this series up and we could have a real logjam in the West.
  • Yotes up 2-1 on the Hawks, but likely without Torres for rest of series. Hawks might have lost Hossa for rest of season. We don't know entirely.
  • Preds up 3-1 on Wings. You know what I'm hoping on Friday. End of discussion.

I was surprised by that too. I figured Pittsburgh would win, but didn't think it'd be near that big a goal differential. But the LA Vancouver game? I was sure LA would win. Alas, Daniel Sedin come back last night, and Schneider had to outperform Quick.
Sunday will be a tough game, but it'll be all the sweeter to me if LA beats Vancouver on Vancouver's home ice.

Game isn't till sunday because of a Coldplay concert at Rogers. Seriously don't get the mutual antagonism between Vancouver and Toronto fans though.

It's not really Toronto vs Vancouver so much as all of Canada outside of Vancouver vs Vancouver, and all of Canada outside of the GTA vs Toronto. If it ever came down to Vancouver vs Toronto, the rest of Canada would implode, unsure of who to root for (Not really, I think they probably hate Toronto more)

A large part of it is seperate from the world of hockey; there's a lot of hatred for the two cities just in general.
All of Canada sees Toronto as having an inflated sense of ego, trying to be New York and pretending we're superior to the rest of the country.
And they see Vancouver in exactly the same way, but replace "New York" with "LA"

When it comes to hockey in particular, you've got that, plus the fact that Vancouver also has rather unsporting fans, and an even more inflated sense of ego (Ask them why the rest of Canada hates Vancouver's team and they'll tell you it's jealousy, because they are the "Prom King"), and it's also a team captained by a Swede that plays a much more European style of hockey complete with many a dive.

Meanwhile they hate Toronto because on top of the already prevalent hatred for the city, Toronto is given preferential treatment by the media, literally declares itself "Canada's team" (There's that over inflated sense of ego again), hasn't won in 45 years and still acts like it's a champion. It's also got an overabundance of Americans, and an American GM, which makes it's "Canada's team" boast seem all the more unfitting.

They have an American as a GM because no Canadian in his right mind would want to be the GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Mostly because you automatically have several million "assistant General Managers" who want to see you fired.

Interesting. All of the Eastern Conference division champs are tied at two games each.

There's a distinct possibility that the Western Conference QF's could be done before all of the East is done.

That's actually pretty funny as it is - the one series that we all thought would be knotted up at two each is the one out east that's at 3-1.

It is getting closer and closer to looking like there may be a James Balsillie Memorial Cup Series afoot in the Western Semis...

From what I've observed I'd have to say Leafs fans are arguably the most loyal in the league so I do think it's shame the teams been so mismanaged over the years.

I still like it when my team beats your team though :p.

Welp, that's pretty much it.

All four Western series are at 3-1. And, if the leading teams hold on to win, it'll mean Blues-Kings and Yotes-Preds.

And much weeping and gnashing of teeth in Hamilton, Ontario. ;)

The winning goal will be scored on a controversial play in which the coyotes tunnel under the predator's net and carry the puck in that way.

Predictions for tonight:
Pittsburgh beats Philly, with a tighter game than the last (I say 2 goal differential), forcing game 6.
Nashville forces Detroit out.
Torres is suspended for the rest of the post season. The suspension does not carry over into next regular season though.

Well, as a surprise to nobody, Detroit is out. Congrats and good luck to you jwhouk. I hope you guys can win it all this year, because we'll probably have one of your "big two" defensemen in Detroit next year :awesome:

Tonight's games are much more difficult to predict. But let's try:

I just don't see San Jose digging themselves out of this funk. I think St. Louis will take it tonight, but it's going to be another close one. Their whole series has been pretty tight, really. Other than game 2.

Chicago I have a feeling will force game 6.

In the East;

I'm going to go with Boston again like usual.

Ottawa/ New York has really been a remarkably even series so far, but I 'm going to bet safe tonight and say New York

And then there's New Jersey/ Florida. This kind of depends on who's in net for NJ. But if I've got to pick one, I'm going to say New Jersey tonight. Don't really know why. I still tihnk Florida's going to take this series, but I think it'll have to go to 7 games to do it.

Torres was given 25 games. It'll carry over into the 2012-2013 season.

Wow. I didn't think Shanahan would have the balls.

It's the third time Torres has been suspended by the NHL for a questionable hit in the last 13 months and Shanahan says that played a factor in the length of the ban.

If the 25 games aren't exhausted during the playoffs -- the Coyotes would need to play four straight seven-game series to complete the suspension -- the ban carries over into the next regular season. Torres would not be able to play in any pre-season games in that case.
As a repeat offender, Torres would forfeit US$21,341 in salary for every regular-season game he sits out.
