Saw it. Loved it. The second act got a little (and I mean that, just a little) whiny and long. Third act however was mind-blowing. I honestly didn't know Whedon had action that big in him.

I'm confused by this headline, it's still early Sunday afternoon on the East Coast.
They use estimates to come up with the weekend total. Usually it's a fairly accurate projection, though they sometimes make mistakes.

Is that just domestic? Because they already made close to that overseas before its North America release. I think around $175 or so.

Yeah, I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Personally I hope he makes a huge crazy musical, like a big budget Dr. Horrible type thing. Or even a small budget Dr. Horrible sequel:p

I just didn't get the appeal of Dr. Horrible. It was cute, but nothing to write home about. In my opinion.

The Pyms did feel like they were missing. I guess they figured they cast was already loaded with super-intelligence. Probably saving Hank for Ultron.

This is literally the first time I've opened this thread since my last post a few months ago. I did a media blackout for myself on all things regarding this movie until I got to see it. I did see it today and it was AWESOME. It was a little draggy at the beginning, but it had to be to get all the exposition out of the way.

All I have to really say is:

THAN-MOTHERFUCKING-OS!

You know as much as I would have loved to see the Pyms, I think Black Widow ended up being the best choice. I didn't think so at first, but then after the movie was over my mother-in-law told me it was so "sexist" that she was the only one with guns and didn't have any superpowers. I told her that having her hold her own with superheroes without powers means she was even more capable on her own, thus I didn't really see the sexism.

It was then I realized that Wasp, while cool, always felt like second fiddle to Ant-Man, and was often more of an annoyance then a threat. Scarlet Witch would likely never be used due to her close ties with the X-Men, and Ms. Marvel is just going into the whole Kree-Skrull thing, which I don't think they want to go with yet. Black Widow was just the best choice to have an ass-kicking female on the team.

Okay now to get a little spoiler heavy, mostly in regards to the Hulk and why I loved this version of it.

I love the Hulk in this movie, way more then any of the past movies. I attempted to figure out why, and realized it.

First, Mark does an amazing job as Bruce Banner. Eric Bana and Edward Norton just never felt like Bruce, they didn't have that quirky edge, they never felt like scientists, they just felt like normal guys with some flashbacks implying they had a scientific background. Mark really nails it, always trying to hold in the beast, acting smart and reserved, yet speaking his mind when needed. I really felt like this was a nerd.

Second, the Hulk himself was not just about the ANGST. Yes I get the fact that the Hulk is destructive, that his defining characteristic is anger. You know what I remember about the Hulk though more then anything? He is a big child when he comes out. The other movies never really got this, they always pushed for the anger, the violence, the misunderstood man on the run because he is a ticking time bomb and then just have the Hulk be a big violent green man. This movie though, kept all that fear of what will happen when he becomes the Hulk, but they also kept that childlike quality. The scene with Captain telling him to "Smash" was like letting the Hulk walk into a theme park, him punching Thor was like him giving his buddy/rival a shoulder smack after a great game of dodgeball, and then him with Loki in Stark tower how he stops with sudden curiosity about what Loki is saying, only to get bored and smack him around like a doll. THIS is what I wanted to see from the Hulk, and it really delivered.

All in all, this is the best superhero movie I have ever seen, hands-down. Every other movie I see that involves a superhero is going to be held up to it.

Actually, one of the producers said recently that they can use Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver for some odd reason. It's something to do with the fact that the characters tie-in both with Avengers and X-Men.

I can't wait till Sony loses the rights to Spider-Man and X-Men.

The only reason the Avengers was able to happen in the first place was because Marvel Pictures exists.

Oh, and I'll give this one... 2 months before half the people saying how good it was do a 180 and say that the movie is crap.

I've noticed that trend quite often around the internets.

- I would have preferred the Hulk not suddenly becoming good and under control, but whatevs. I think the movie would have been more interesting with them having to deal with a rampaging Hulk after they won the day from Loki.
I meant to post this earlier:
I took Hulk's more cooperative nature to be a reflection on Banner choosing to turn into the Hulk for once instead of fighting it. Almost as if accepting that the Hulk is a part of him instead of just being "the other guy" gave him more control.

I can live with that for sure. Like I said, I really liked the movie. That's just not the Hulk I've known over the last 15 or so years of comics but that's probably more my problem with having so much preconception of the character from other media.

Re: Hulk/Banner lack of control/in control issue Personally I feel like there is a deleted scene we were supposed to see.

Eh, I don't think so. I think it was just a case of Banner choosing to let the Hulk out on his own terms. Kind of like having the ability to aim the gun before it fires.

Also, here's a first world problem for ya: having now watched it twice, I'm in a mood to revisit some Hulk comics. But they're all boxed up at my parents' place. :(
