Modern day day setting with secret societies involving magic, guns, occult, etc (basically all the old legends, wives tales, folklore stuff). You end up fighting things like spirits, zombies, demons, dragons and the like. No levels, no classes. It's all ability and skill [point] based. You solve mysteries, decide if you want to save people or not along the way. Starting points in the game are New York, London, and Seoul.

Yes, and you can change builds easily, so no need to make a million alts. I think they said they only thing really set in stone is which society you pic. Templar, Illuminati or Dragon.

Well, should you wish to try the other Societies out, perhaps. The pre-order stuff is ok too. early beta access, pet wolf, an in game t-shirt and ring, but being able to reserve a name is the best part. Unfortunately, someone already reserved my primary and secondary choices, but I had a tertiary.

I always get tempted to try MMOs but I've never been able to keep playing a single one. Once again, I like the hook of this one but I don't think I can do it.

Funcom did the Longest Journey games, so they've bought some good will for me. However, with EA backing the servers, I'd be affraid to have a non running MMO in a few months.

Well, playing the beta as a chaos mage tank so far... it's pretty cool.

The town of Kingsmouth. It's like The Fog meets Salem meets Innsmouth meets Silent Hill meets (etc, etc). Very nice how things are tied together.

Played the hell out of the Open Beta this weekend. Really enjoyed it, but it runs like shit on my PC. I'll definitely consider switching to this if SWTOR can't hold me.

Well it's not like I can't cancel the pre-order and get my money back if the beta sucks. :p
If they do a trial I'll be glad to hand out codes.

My roommate's been playing this and seems to like it a lot more than he thought he would. The initial reveal (like two years ago?) made it sound really cool, and then it's like the game dropped off the radar till he got a beta invite last week, also finding out the game releases next month. It looks kinda fun from what I've watched, but I'm mainly worried it'll be another Conan. Awesome fun for like 20 levels, then you leave the first major area and it all goes to hell.

Last weekend WAS an Open Beta, but you had to get a code from Gamespot or another website to let you in on it. The rest of the weekends are for people that pre-ordered.

The game was pushed 2 weeks later...

So next beta weekend is June 15th.

:(

I just got in but I have no idea what my schedule is going to be ATM. Plus I'm still trying to finish up Kingsmoth proper. Still need to do the stuff at the Junkyard.

I'm conflicted about the Secret World.

It looks amazing, but then... MMO published by EA...

It's like, oh look, there's a $20 just laying in the road. But there's a dog turd sitting on top of it. And that turd comes with Day 1 DLC.
