[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

X-Men First Class surprised me, I went in, after X-3, ready to hate it.

Loved every minute.

Also on Ultraviolet and Aeon Flux. I never said they were "good". You're talking to the same person who loved Bloodrayne 3rd Reich.

Battleship

Not bad. My expectations were really low with this and I'm glad to say it is a mostly entertaining popcorn action flick. The first act of the film is rough, but it felt like it got better as it went on. It had some good action and found a somewhat clever way to work in the play style of the game. However, the plot and characters are threadbare. I'd say they were like generic versions of characters and a story from a Michael Bay movie. On the whole, I don't regret seeing it but it's not something I advise rushing out to theaters to see. It pretty much sets out to make a Michael Bay-type movie and, while it doesn't fully hit the mark, gets most of that job done.

Faith, Fraud and Minimum Wage

Meh, it's local to me so I gave it a spin. Nothing overwhelming or awesome. I give it a solid maybe.

Dead Like Me: Life After Death
Oh god this is horrible. I was disappointed in the way the show ended, but this didn't fix that at all. Terrible.

Being Elmo
Surprisingly compelling, and definitely very heart warming. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Glad I watched it alone so nobody saw me tearing up at certain parts.

I feel late to the party, but..I went and saw The Avengers yesterday and really really enjoyed it! I was actually worried that it was going to be over-hyped for me. That happens to me a lot. Even if I still enjoy something, it's not as much as others did. Anyway.

For an action movie I thought the light-hearted humor in it was great! I kept thinking, "I'm so glad Michael Bay did NOT do this movie." In my opinion the action sequences were perfect, they were definately everywhere, but weren't stupidly everywhere like he tends to do. Dialogue and casting? Spot on.

Mark Ruffalo is my favorite incarnation of the Hulk I've yet seen. He is all sorts of adorable to me.

I was also glad that they did a pretty swell job of explaining what was going on if you haven't seen the other movies. Because I still haven't seen Thor or Captain America, but didn't feel exceptionally lost with anything, which was really nice. I know I missed some character development by not seeing those movies (which I do plan to see), but plotwise I think I faired pretty well.

If you haven't yet seen this yet, which I doubt, I would highly recommend it! Especially if you love action movies. Joss Whedon, you're a champ.

I am the last person in the world who has not seen the Avengers.

All my friends who'd actually be interested in seeing it have gone already, and I hate going to the movies by myself.

I watched Daylight in a drug-fueled haze. I couldn't tell you who got out of there. Viggo Mortensen disappeared for a while and I have no idea what happened to him. How did all that loud noise happen. It was a movie.

I haven't seen it either. All the energy I have for getting out of the house has gone to more important things.*

*Yeah, yeah, Avengers is oh-so-important. Whatever, I'm not in the mood to hear about how a movie trumps seeing a doctor or visiting my grandfather.

Griff the Invisible How did this movie get such a crappy reception from critics? I thought it was excellent. My guess is that you either identify with Griff or you don't. And if you don't, the movie just isn't for you. The movie was perfectly paced, reasonably subtle, and interesting. My favorite part was how
they slowly let you in on the fact that it was all in his head, starting with the security video footage and the way his costume suddenly changed in the police spotlights

I'm waiting for it to come to the $2 theater nearby so we can see it again with the in laws.

We should all check our local theater times, find a time that's common for all of us, and see it at the same time. Then do a three way call afterwards so we can totally pretend we saw it in the same theater and rant and/or rave about it.

So when are you two free?
This sounds awesome. If you guys do this... Put it on vent.

The 5-Year Engagement - I've been in a romantic comedy mood lately (recently re-watched Going the Distance and Easy-A) and thought this'd be a good way to put a cap on a great day. Overall, it was a pretty good movie. Good date movie for those of you with a snuggle bunny. At one point, it got...really, really weird for like 20 minutes. You'll know it when you see it. Aside from that, it was a pretty solid movie. Not as solid as the last outing by this creative team (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), but still solid. If you can see it cheap, "legally obtain" it, or see it on Netflix, give it a watch.

I finally saw the last two Harry Potters. I think I liked the first part better than everyone else slightly, and liked the second part less than everyone else slightly. I was never super-attached to the franchise or anything, though! I still think Half-Blood Prince is the best one.

Saw the Dictator. Laughed a bunch. It was really quite funny.

The fucked up part was the fact that Alberta has rated it 14A and the theater was filled with young kids. Filled. I was fucking baffled.

The Secret of Kells

Wow. Gorgeous, engaging, and so touching. I can't believe it took me so long to watch this! Absolutely adored it.

Super 8
Am I a horrible person because I didn't enjoy this that much? The first half I actually really liked, very Goonies-esque. Which was cool. But throughout the second half, I was kind of just bored.

I stated this a while back, to which I had to go on to defend my feelings against Spielberg in general. I'm with you 100% on your review.

However, the fact that we agree, might actually make you a horrible person. So there's that....

I was unimpressed with how Super 8 turned out. Don't feel bad. My own general impression of the movie was
"Hey guys, let's remake E.T. with a scarier alien!"

I seriously cannot plug The Secret of Kells enough. I don't even care if you hate it, just at least watch it and try to appreciate everything that is happening on the screen. Watch iiiiitttttt.

I'm so glad you liked it Cajungal!!

It's a really great film that does a decent job of exploring Irish history and mythology, and looking GORGEOUS while doing it. I have said it before and I will say again, in my opinion it was the clear best animated film of that year.

Life with Murder A documentary about a Chatham, Ontario family where the son (20) was convicted of murdering his younger sister (18) and the unwavering support his parents have for him 11 years later. Absolutely fucking fascinating.

Youth in Revolt
This is the most hipster movie that ever hipstered. I normally like Michael Cera and have defended him against his numerous detractors, but other than a handful of funny bits that were mostly in the commercial already, I just wanted to punch him in the back of the head throughout this movie.

The main characters were the most pretentious kids I've ever encountered in fiction or reality, and the story is just complete rubbish, there to fulfill some bullshit pretentious fantasy, with virtually no appeal to any sort of broader audience.
