[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

Latest netflix watchings,

13 Assassins - I enjoyed it. The movie is basically one glorious last stand for the second half of the movie but if you like samurai flicks, it's a really good one.

Drive - It's been said here before but it's an awesome movie. Ryan Gosling says more in that movie without saying anything than any other actor I've seen in recent memory.

I think his acting was great in it, but the story itself was trite hollywood flash compared to what it could have been.

I Am Legend Director's Cut was pretty fantastic I thought.... fixed the stupid theatre ending.

HOWEVER, this is only taking into consideration that it's NOTHING like the source content.

The alternate ending is better, but I still wish...

The woman and kid never showed up, and that instead the scene with him in the car had evolved the movie into him hunting the creatures. Not sure how it would've ended, maybe with a similar revelation to the alternate ending... I just think it would've been better than having those two other pointless characters show up.

I just could not like I Am Legend, and it's not because I can't divorce it from the source material. I think that I Robot is a pretty damn good sci-fi action flick if you ignore any connection with the Isaac Asimov books.

I thought the pacing was terrible, the story beyond stupid, and the CGI, oh GOD the CGI. If you're going to just make things that look like people in bad makeup, just put people in bad makeup.

Regarding I Am Legend, I always fail to gauge people's interest in a certain kind of movie, one where there's an exploratory nature to an area or science. Example, I like the original Day of the Dead mainly because of the scientist who was experimenting on zombies. I love stuff like that in movies of just discovering things; there was a lot of that in I Am Legend, though part of it was expected of the audience since the character had already been in that environment for three years.

So I can understand the pacing was off for some and I wouldn't insult them with saying "you need explosions", but I found it all fascinating.

I'm the exact OPPOSITE of "you need explosions". I love expository info that tells you more about characters and their motivations. I just thought it was uneven in I Am Legend.

Men in Black 3

I don't remember hating the second one, but I'll admit it wasn't great. This, on the other hand, was pretty fun. It's not going to win any awards for greatness, but it's a fun popcorn flick and got a few chuckles out of me. Worth the $5 admission for me (only $5 because the theatre here in town is super cheap; one of the very few things I'll miss about this town).

So...I never saw High School Muscial and wondered what it was all about, especially since it was so HUGE. Yeah, I turned it off after 5 minutes, I couldn't even handle it. Maybe when I'm in a more 'squishy' mood, I'll give it another go.

Instead I popped in Addam's Family Values. I forgot how much fun that movie is! Adore!

Blade Runner - The Final Cut - first time seeing this movie. It was good, if a little slow paced, but I thought the themes of the story were really conveyed well through the visuals. The world itself bothered me a bit (WHY would you let things get to that point?).

Brewster's Millions - What is there to say? It's Richard Pryor with John Candy. Funny movie, great cast, good premise.

Just saw Thor.

I liked it. A bit clunky in places. I have a lot more love for Loki now.

He's a definitely going to be a fan girl woobie for years to come.

Edit: A quick search of Deviant art has revealed that this is already happening. I can't say I disapprove.

American Reunion

Originally I planned not to see this in theatres, but a "Making of" featurette I saw on telly piqued my interest. I went in expecting a few cheap laughs and Stifler being a slightly entertaining douchebag.

I was pleasantly surprised, both in the terms of comedy and drama. I laughed out loud more than once, and I could certainly relate to the qualms of the main characters, now all(most) grown up and facing their own dilemmas when coming together for their high school reunion.

Also, Alyson Hannigan is still hot :)

A few to add for me:

Harold and Kumar go to White Castle
and
Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay
I've been purposely ignoring these movies for so long, because I assumed they were very pot-smoking oriented stoner movies, and honestly I didn't enjoy Pineapple Express half as much as my stoner friends did. That kind of humour can be somewhat alienating. But Canadian netflix only has so many movies that interest me and I'm starting to run low, so I gave them a chance. And was pleasantly surprised that although there is definitely a lot of pot-humour, they're not strictly stoner comedies and there was a lot I could laugh at. Won't be buying them anytime soon, may never even watch them again, but I got some decent chuckles out of them. NPH especially, obviously.

Trail of the Screaming Forehead
Was expecting more "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavre" genius. Didn't get any. Shame.

Black Sheep
EXACTLY the type of cheesy horror comedy I expected.

How do you mean, ElJuski ? Granted, it wasn't one of Baron Cohen's finest pieces, but I found it worth a watching. Not two, but definitely one.
I never said it wasn't worth watching. Just a squandered premise playing to what I thought was wrung out a few years ago. Less decapitated-head-dick-sucking, more keen satirical insight into North African tyrants.

I finally was able to go see Marvel's The Avengers tonight. Short review, I liked it. I will buy it.

I enjoyed the interaction between the characters, there are some good one-liners in the movie, like how they showed the SHIELD Heli-Carrier, and how they brought the team together. I don't think that Agent Phil Coulson is dead. Thanos next, I'll take it, would hope that they could work in something for the Fantastic Four and have Torch meet Cap. "Puny God." - loved it.
