Rant VII: Now With 25% Less Drama

While I'm supposed to be on vacation, my manager has ragequit, a front desk guy is keeping vigil over his dying mother, and another front desk guy is being such an annoyance, police were called to remove him off the property when he wasn't supposed to be there.

I've been told this could all fall into my lap when I get back to work... and been advised to go into hiding until my next scheduled shift on Wednesday. :p

An extra dash of silly... the front desk guy hanging out on the property after hours and the other front desk guy who called the cops on him when he wouldn't leave... are roommates.

For now. :p

So much for vacation. The guy supposed to work my shift tonight is dealing with a 9-1/2 hour drive back from SC where he was visiting his dying mother in the hospital. The guy currently on front desk is refusing to work the extra shift. The only other front desk person is a 75-year old lady who just came off the 7-3 shift, and allegedly was forced to work a double because the kid refused to work a double himself.

If there was any other person available, this kid would be fired on the spot, no point in waiting until Wednesday.

Well fuck.

I'm currently on a gurney in the hospital ER. BP was sky high when ambulance arrived at work. Squeezed but not pain in the chest, and a bit lightheaded.

As they've let me be for the most part is a bit of a good sign. I guess.

So far so good. First set of blood work was negative. They are going to keep me overnight and take more blood later to make sure key enzymes aren't trending the wrong way. BP has dropped significantly since I got here.

Looks like work-related attack at this point. I'm feeling better now than I did two hours ago.

Dude, you took a vacation to get away from that crap! You really have to relax and not get so worked up over what happens at work when you're not there. Especially when you are on vacation.

Relax, stop thinking about that damn hotel, and get better.

They still have another set of blood work and an echocardiogram to do before I'm even close to getting out of here. Talk of a catheterization as well. Would rather not if possible.

Turns out I'm down 20 lbs from where I thought I was. Whee! :D

Due to history, they want to do the cath. Best to just go ahead and let them do it.

Turns out now they can go in through the wrist instead of the groin. Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease.

Holy crap, that's one hell of a catheter!

I think all that walking in DC helped.

Just out of cath. No change. Will treat with meds. No stent. No bypass. Will be out of here in four to five hours.

Found the new cat had broken into the gecko cage and was just sitting there in a mess of cage materials and unable to escape.

Gecko seems unharmed though.

Can't drive for 3 days. Doctor's orders. Can't go back to work until Thursday at the earliest. Owner has been advised and is okay with it.

WHEEEE! :D

Halfway through reading that, I was very upset.
My heart stopped for a moment.

Also, yesterday I decided to clean up Yoshis terrarium. The guys at the shelter apparently knew squat about gecko care and were just tossing mealworms into the cage...infesting the sand with them. Also the glass was thick with grime.

So, I took out every thing out of the tank and put Yoshi in a large Tupperware container with the lid off. He was confused but chill.

Then I realized the cat was watching. WAITING. He sprung on Yoshi...I smacked him but the gecko was already in a panic and fell behind the shelving unit. I tossed the cat out side and went to get Yoshi but he was scared shitless. I could hardly pick him up..I thought for sure he was going to drop his tail.

Everything turned out ok...but my nerves wereshot for a few minutes and Yoshi hasn't left his hidey hole since I put him back in. :(

Yoshi is a good name.

When I used to share a room with my brother, once I had Einstein out just for some "get to know me" time, and my brother didn't know. He called the dogs upstairs, and they came both came bounding up the steps super excited and immediately ran over to me wagging tails and barking and sniffing, trying to get what was in my hand, which wouldn't have been very hard for them since I am pretty short and at the time I was like 10. Einstein FREAKED out, peeing and pooing everywhere, hissing, flailing around, I barely got her in the terrarium. and since then she's been considerably less social. She's started to come around again a bit in the past few years, but she's definitely more skiddish than she used to be.

Yes, her name is Einstein. The pet store told me she was a male, and I had her for 7 years before I found out that she wasn't. My friend usually calls her Einsteina, I usually just call her sweety.

I don't put sand in with her. I've read that it's not good unless they are laying eggs, because they often swallow it when hunting and it can get impacted in their bowels. Also I've never fed her meal worms. I just find them too gross and don't want to deal with them. She gets crickets, mostly, and in the summer she gets grasshoppers, moths, june bugs, grubs, mayflies, dragonflies, and just about anything else I can catch that I know isn't poisonous.

I once fed her a moth with a wingspan so large she had to hold it in her mouth by the wingtip and flail around, beating it against a rock until it stopped moving so she could slowly eat the damn thing. It took her like 20minutes to eat.

lol when the Gecko is on my wife or another person the cats view it as another pet even sniffing it

put the Gecko on the ground? Cats see lunch!

I use wood bark. This stuff, specifically:
http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/forest_bark.php

I dunno though, a lot of books will tell you to use sand (Leopard geckos ARE desert geckos, after all). It might have more to do with how coarse/ fine the sand is, or how old the gecko is. I've just read horror stories.
You're probably fine. I didn't mean for it to be a "You're doing it wrong!" thing. Just making conversation.

But they clearly have you on good painkillers!

Get well soon and don't worry about the damn job so much.
Beyond the sedation during the procedure itself, no painkillers. Really didn't need them.

Now I need to find stuff to do as I'm housebound for the next couple of days. And chores are right out per doc's orders. :)
