[NHL] 2011-2012 Season is Over (Kings take the Cup)

It all comes down to how the press remembers to vote. Do they go with this series with Quick being great or combine the other series with Quick being Great, Great, OK. It's a compliment to the Kings that players are stepping up from all over to help win in the post season.

vs VAN that was Brown's series.
vs STL that was Quick/Doughty
vs NAS that was Kopitar
vs NJD it's Quick with a side of Kopitar and some Williams, with a dash of Doughty and a pinch of Brown

Really, when they award the trophy can they just give it to the General Manager or Coach for getting these guys to all play like this?

Handy-dandy review of the three-star totals for the entire playoffs would give the Connie to Quick (5-3-2, 21 pts.), with Brown (2-2-3, 11 pts.) and Kopitar (2-2-1, 9 pts.) right behind.

If you "weight" the point totals, giving players with SOTG more "points" in later rounds, Quick is running away with things, with Kopitar slightly ahead of Brown.

I'm pretty much thinking it's going to be Quick, if the Kings close this out Saturday.

Anyone getting any wind down south about the new Coyote's owner not having the cash to meet his end of the deal?

Phoenix votes on the proposal tomorrow.

This is what got me. There hasn't been a series where Quick has been only "OK." Every other player on the team has had ups and downs, and Quick has been nearly perfect since the start of the playoffs. Hell, since the start of the season. If Brown had kept playing every series like he did round one, or if Kopitar had played every series like he has a couple of the games so far in the finals, there'd be some question I think. As it is, the trophy goes to Quick.

Fixed that for you; Jobing.com Arena is in Glendale, which is just outside of the PHX city limits.

Jamison may have some issues trying to get the cash; hopefully he's not banking on that $10-20 million/year payment to run the arena to fund the purchase of the team.

It also appears that a group, Arizona Free Enterprise Club, is opposed to the purchase - but, unlike the Goldwater Institute, they're not going to sue.

Boy. If the CoG votes this down, the NHL should yank the team from Phoenix just on general principles.

Oh, also, the Marlies got swept in the finals (Thanks in part to an OT goal in the third game that was such a clearly blown call the AHL came forward the next day and said it shouldn't have counted). Which means there still has not been a professional hockey championship in Toronto since my dad was in elementary school.

Well, yeah. Since before I was born too. But that doesn't drive the point home enough.
The Maple Leafs haven't won the Stanley Cup since
before I was born.
before my parents were married.

before my parents were in college.
before my parents were in high school.

And the Marlies have never won, not even when they were in St. John's.

Though the Toronto Marlboros won in the 70s. CHL though.

Uh yeah, 5 min major penalty and Brown just emphatically dropped his hat back into the Conn Smythe trophy derby.

I don't think a player who went 9 games without scoring, including the first 5 of the finals, is going to get serious consideration here. Both goalies have been way too good.

Stupid CBC website disconnected me just after the final horn blew, then once I made it through the ads, it loaded up and gave me about 30seconds before randomly switching to the Punjabi stream.

I said that predicting the actual series winners would be the deciding factor in the event of a tie, which is why HCGLNS wound up ahead of Vrii. But that wasn't enough to break the tie between BErt and I.

Someone should tell ESPN that a hockey team just one the oldest trophy in professional sports. I don't believe anyone's told them.

I don't have TV any more, but if I had to guess, I'd say that TSN's sportcentre will talk about the game for 75-85% of the show, including having their "Top Ten" revolve entirely around the Stanley Cup Final.

I don't know how but I subtracted 1 from blotsfan instead of adding 1. Doesn't change the standings, but I felt bad. It's fixed now. If anyone else sees any mathematical errors let me know.

Yeah, it's a shame we got started with this late and missed the whole first round. That would have completely changed the results I'm sure. (I know I predicted Phoenix and Chicago, New York and Ottawa, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, and New Jersey and Florida all wrong)

I like having the extra stuff to collect the pity points when you completely miss out on the winning team, but I do think that Round 1 and 2, predicting winners, number of games, AND OTs is a lot to process, and a pain to keep track of. If you want to simplify the system, I think it'd be enough to say winner and number of games for the first two rounds.

But are we going to do a Stanley Cup specific pool next year, or shall we do a full fledged fantasy league style pool?

After much searching, I've finally found a mini Stanley Cup that doesn't have a team logo on it. It is $15 plus $2 S+H. What do you guys think? Should we get it to use as our forum trophy? I intend for us to continue with this as long as the forum remains.
