I am in no way saying I know his characters better than he does, but for a girl gamer that is quite the nerd, I would think Jade's job would be a dream come true and hardly seem like "work." /shrug

I think you may be reading too much into it. She's grown to see Francis as the son she never had, and that has rekindled the desire for a family that she never thought she had.

But then, this is Kurtz, so who knows.

That she kind of sees the immature young man she's taken under her wing as a kind of son-like figure and possibly wishes she could become a more literal mother figure to him? A revelation that fits perfectly with the level of mentoring she's tried to give him, particularly advising him on his love life?

Yeah, I don't see anything wrong with todays strip. Makes perfect sense and is one of the few storylines he's done recently that is consistent and well thought out.

Yeah, I thought this was a pretty decent strip.

Now, if the next few strips are her trying to aggressively adopt Francis away from his actual parents, that would actually pretty fucking funny. Thank god, Kurtz will move on to the next storyline before that.

Nothing wrong with wanting to adopt an adult. I'm currently trying to adopt a 22 year old Russian girl. Some people think it'll be strange having to change and bathe her but I'm up for the challenge.

Man....No offense or anything, but the story "something cool comes along for the best/coolest/hot new/young reporter, Francis expects to get it, and, SHOCK, Marcy gets it" has been done at LEAST 3 times before on PVP.
Frankly, I'm starting to think some decisionmaker over at PVP Magazine is either pandering to the fanboys by putting hot young women on the cover/front and center, or is too strongly focused on positive discrimination. Or Francis is just plain less competent a journalist than Marcy.

Anyway, oh my the story we're going to get.

Covered in fur? Nah, more like mini-chin tentacles, or a reverse Klingon forehead.

That being said, I kinda liked how he handled the whole "baby or not baby" arc. At least it didn't end abruptly.
