Due to other peoples' emergencies, it looks like my weekend has disappeared. :(

The combined overtime from this week and last will be on my next paycheck. :D

Sometimes I like having a monotonous job. It makes days like today easy; My brain isn't functioning at all. And my right eye won't open very well - it's too tired.

Now people switching back to their regular avatars is almost confusing me as much as they did switching to each other's avatars in the first place.

I got so confused over who was who they melded into one user in my head. Stiendrift, Who is the Quiet Boy Wonder.

Now this is confusing me even more. I hadn't noticed they were switching back until you pointed it out.

I just spent the better part of a movie trying to paint my nails. I think it's safe to say that is an activity I'll try to avoid in the future. What a waste of damn time, and I had to remove it all. It's one of those skills I tried to pick up too late I guess. Can't handle not being able to use my hands for that long... It's maddening.

Do people actually get offended when someone is breastfeeding in public?

I get more offended when people are eating in public and chewing with their fucking mouths open. It's disgusting. Stop it.

We have a special room in the mall for women to breast feed. I think most spaces around here are encouraged to allow breastfeeding or have a spot set away for it.

The only time I ever was asked to leave because of Jet was before he had surgery on his lip. I was asked to leave by the owner of a cafe because she though his lip would 'turn off' her customers. I was so embarrassed I cried...and my husband called her to complain. Nothing ever came of it, though.

That woman is bullshit.

I would have freaked out on that sad excuse for a human being. She would not have had a job when I was done.

While I personally wouldn't go as far as to say that I'm offended, I must admit I do get slightly uncomfortable at the idea of a mother bearing her private parts in public. Wouldn't make a number out of it, though.

Now, I don't know much at all about the particulars of feeding babies, but I was wondering if there are significant differences in nutritional or other such viewpoints between breastfeeding, and bottle feeding breast milk to babies. I guess the real question from me is if it is possible for mothers to feed their babies as they wish in private, but using bottles when in public. Or is there some actually good reason for breastfeeding in public that would trump any objections from people who actually take offense to it?

Heh, doctors have waffled back and forth on this over the ages. In the '80s, bottles were better and anyone breastfeeding was beign cheap and horrible. Early '90s saw doctors saying that breastfeeding was essential because of antibodies. later '90s saw bottlefeeding as necessarfy to reinforce the connection with the father/second mother. Early '00s had doctors saying breastfeeding was better again.
I haven't really heard what the latest vision of it is, I think it's still breastfeeding as preferable when given the choice, up to a certain age. Breastfeeding is just plain wrong when the baby has teeth*.

Anyway, breast feeding has some benefits that bottle feeding doesn't have: certain antibodies that can't be replicated, the psychological bonding with the mother, and, depending on your personal stance, natural proteins and minerals instead of artifical ones.
Downsides of breastfeeding are, amongst others, a (small) chance to transfer diseases to the baby (including some big ones), a chance of lack of nourishment if the mother isn't healthy (enough) (a mother who isn't getting enough calcium for herself can't pass on enough calcium, either - though the body will try), and, again depending on your view, the lack of bonding with the father/parent who can't breastfeed.

*while this is said jokingly, I have known people to breastfeed to well over 3 years. That's madness and sickening and wrong, unless there's a very specific medical reason for it. Not as bad as in ASOIAF where he's 7 or so years old, but really. Breastfeeding for too long can have serious psychological issues. I do not mean to imply that there's a sepcific age after which it is necessarily wrong or whatever, and certainly not that this is at the first sight of the first tooth. I do not mean this as an insult or in any way too serious a notion.

A lot of women, or at least a lot of the women that I've seen around here, where a smock when breastfeeding so they're not actually exposing their breasts at all. Washington recently passed a law allowing breast feeding in all public spaces, and making it illegal to ask a breastfeeding mother to leave an area
A smock might seem like an acceptable compromise to me, if a more discreet location is not available. Do you know if the law requires a woman to wear a smock or other similar covering garment while breastfeeding, or is it left entirely to the discretion of the mother whether or not to breastfeed bare-chested, with tough noogies to everyone else?

Compromise? People don't make you wear a bag on your head when you eat.

I eat like a monster...

I worry what will happen to me in the future. My appetite seems pretty insatiable by just about any food item...how bad is it that I want to eat 24/7?

Help me Halforums, help me.
