[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

I just finished watching the Dalek saga from the original Doctor Who series. The first doc is such a crotchedy old man, I freakin love him!

I've been watching Gravity Falls like a mofo recently. That show is soooooooooooo good. And I love the underlying mystery theme too.
It's sort of like an animated Erie, Indiana. I dig it, whenever I can catch it on. Unfortunately, I can already tell that it's going to be too good to last.

Dude please don't remind me of it's eventual fate. The show is clearly better than Phineas and Ferb(where the money is) and Disney will probably cancel so that it doesn't overshadow it. I hope they don't, but its a giant possibility.

Phineas and Ferb is AMAZING. You can't compare two different flavors of awesome. But I suspect Disney will get at least 52 episodes out of Gravity Falls. That's the max they do for most series because that's the time you can syndicate it.

Well if we get 52 I'd be okay with that. And I do like Phineas and Ferb, I just feel Gravity Falls is a bit better.

Loving Adventure Time this season. This is a show that can have a plot episode, a silly episode, or both at times. It keeps changing it up and I like it.

Wife and I have been "watching" Law & Order CI and SVU--I use quotes because we mostly use it as background noise. BUT every now and then something happens and I care about what's going on with the characters, and stupidly expect it to be addressed in the next episode... nope. I guess I got too used story arc shows.

SCU does acknowledge previous stuff, like the long time arc that Stabler had about his inability to balance his work and family, anger control issues, and divorce. But if it's not happening to Benson or Stabler, it's generally not important.

One of the guys on CI worked with Lenny Briscoe (from Law and Order) for a long time and he still seems to acknowledge how hard his death has been on him. But generally, that's all your going to get from a story perspective.

I'd also like to mention that USA LOVES to show the episodes out of order. So you'd have a hard time following anyway.

We're watching on Netflix, so the orders wouldn't be an issue. And while there are consistent themes, I don't see a lot going, except for end of season 1 into beginning season 2.

Example from CI: There was a case where Gorim and Eames (sp?) had to withhold info from the assistant DA because it might get back to a prosecutor they were trying to get. This caused a schism between them at the end of the episode... we're a season later, seen nothing of it.

Better example from SVU: Just watched an episode where a guy was trying to ruin Benson. A lot of issues happened for her and trust issues came up between her and Stabler. Next episode? It's like it never happened.

There are also weird moments thrown in that don't seem to affect anything. Like Benson is told her mother died, and while I understand her not being emotionally hit by this because of the circumstances, it might as well not have happened.

Could be worse, with the original Law & Order you were lucky they gave the detectives and ADAs names.

I miss Law & Order.

I believe both the live action show and the animated show are both on Netflix. I know for sure the live action one is.

I hope Gravity Falls survives for more than just one season. From what I've read, the show's creator and the writers already have three seasons worth of the show planned out.

Finished the first season of Grimm and started the second. I love this show! I'm going to have to see if we can get the Sherlock series now.

Adventure Time

A friend of mine convinced me to give this a try. He lent me the first season, of which I watched the first two episodes.

Honestly? I thought it was just stupid. It's nonsensical in all the wrong ways, like it's just trying too hard to be weird.

I'll be returning this to him tomorrow.

I felt this way at first...then it really grew on me. Like...it makes me smile and just forget anything awful.

I think my problem with it is two fold:

1) It reminds me a lot of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, which I never liked.

2) There was no introduction to the world we're presented at all. They just jump right into the first episode as if it's any episode. Except there are so many ridiculous concepts from the get-go that all I'm doing is just trying to keep up with the ridiculousness rather than enjoy it. I'm all like, "Candy people? What? Cloud people/world? What? Princess scientist in a fantasy realm? What?" There's no explanation of anything, like why there's only one human (and his dog, who is magical or...something?) or anything.

Normally, this would be fine. It's similar to, say, the old 80s cartoons like The Smurfs or something, where you could watch any episode. Except The Smurfs wasn't blatantly trying so hard to throw all these ridiculous concepts at you like a 4-year old telling a story.

Finished the second season of Breaking Bad. What an awful finale, and the writers should be ashamed of themselves for having the season long tease lead up to...that. Seriously, what a pathetic and random payoff. There's only 2 reasons for any sort of forgiveness 1) the show is superbly written (usually, that was just crap) and 2) If the show only got renewed at the last moment after other episodes started airing and they needed to completely re-write the finale. 1 is what made me continue on to season 3, 2 is just speculation on my part. Seriously I expect that kind of random bullshit from something like Lost, I expect better from Breaking Bad.

As for the non-bullshit in season 2, I thought it was great.

Waiting on new Breaking Bad to air again.

At this point, I totally view Jesse as the main character of the show instead of Walter.

Everything you need to know about the Adventure Time world is in the first half second of the theme. After that, you start to pick up other clues.
