I found the show borderline unwatchable from the beginning. As far as shows about criminal groups go it's never been that good imho. The guys are remarkably sloppy in how they commit crimes, and little explanation about how they get away with it. They apparently don't use burners. They leave witnesses everywhere. They assume none of their phones are ever tapped. They assault people in places that are clearly videotaped (gas stations). And they leave fingerprints on just about everything. And yet they are "untouchable".

After watching a show like The Wire I simply can't abide by that anymore.

Also, season 7 of Supernatural is now on netflix. I feel like there was a huge potential to go Lovecraftian with this one, and I think they missed it.

Season 7 was actually pretty damn good, all things considered. It really plays off your paranoia when any and everyone you know could be a Leviathan in disguise. And their ultimate end game? It's scary just how well they play it.

That would have been really, really fucking trite. It would have also been an insurmountable challenge, because the protagonists in Lovecraft stories never win.

Dude, they've already beaten the forces of Heaven and Hell. They've actually killed gods. They can handle the old ones ( with help from the elder gods of course). And let's face it, Sam and Dean may technically win, they generally loose a LOT.

I think what bothers me is that the food chain doesn't make sense to me anymore. Angels beats demons beats human. Angels can teleport anywhere in the world instantly, can travel through time, and can create entire false realities. But they get killed by leviathans, something that you can beat into temporary submission with a baseball bat and can decapitate.

Actually, the baseball bat wouldn't phase them (a car is dropped on one and it only slows him down until he can crawl out from under it) and decapitation is only a short term solution, as the body will reform if the head and body ever meet. Borax worked well too but no more than holy water to a demon/vampire. No, there is only ONE way to kill a Leviathan for good and it was such a secret that they had to get a god damn prophet of the Lord to tell them how to do it (which, coincidentally, also means that God is done having his thumb up his ass and actually helped out for once). Compare this to Angels and Demons, who all had numerous ways to be trapped, banished, or killed.

However, that wasn't the real threat of the Leviathan. The real threat was that they could be anyone and anything, as they could copy/possess angels, demons, and other beings just as easily as they could do it to a human and no one had a way to tell the difference. This is brought up in the finale of Season where...

Dick actually had several of his underlings copy HIS form so the Winchesters would have trouble looking for him. Unfortunately, Castial (who had first felt his prescience) could tell the difference.

... so really, the Leviathans were a threat mainly because there was so little documentation out there on them that nobody actually had any idea of how to (effectively) deal with them and because everyone was suddenly suspect. It was kind of like the Dominion War in Deep Space Nine: changelings had infiltrated everywhere, so you no longer knew who to trust.

Dammit, I was all set up and ready to hate on Elementary.... It was actually pretty well done. It will stay on my DVR list for another week.

I am just a little sad that Watson was not a former Army surgeon that served in Afghanistan.

Just finished the last episode of the live action "The Tick" and...DAMMIT! The other episodes were good, but this one was really great! I hate how this show never got a chance just because of scheduling.

Odd fact, Ben Edlund creator of the Tick is a regular writer on Supernatural as well as one of the producers.

Yup, and he's written some Angel and Serenity episodes, too (possibly Buffy and Dollhouse, but I'm not as sure of that; the point is, Whedon loves him).

And it really does suck because The Tick was clearly just hitting its stride with the last couple of episodes. It would make crazy money now that people would get half the jokes, thanks to the deluge of superhero properties since then.

The key to loving Supernatural is the same as the key to loving Buffy: knowing that every so often, during the ongoing story of fighting the current evil after the Winchesters, you get an episode that is completely fucking bananas and really doesn't have much to do with the over arching plot. That doesn't mean that the episode is bad, but it does mean your going to see hijinks.

That being said, if your going to watch the show, remember that the show was only planned for 5 seasons. This means that seasons 1-5 were all planned out and plotted before the show ever went into production and that each preceding season was designed to build up for the final season's ultimate showdown. This is why Season 6 is kinda weak; they had to basically spend half the season justifying the new Status Que and then the rest of it is really about building up to Season 7's conflict. This really does pay off though, as Season 7 is actually quite good in how it basically forces the formula to change.

Ben and Kate. Has some really funny moments, and some really not funny moments. Like Family Guy "I'm going to keep at this until you laugh damnit" unfunny moments. Shame. Also Ben is far to over the top and overbearing to be charming.

Elementary. While the Sherlock tv movies (if you only make 3 a year and they're each an hour an a half they're movies not episodes, :mad:) are more accurate modern interpretations, this was much better than I expected. Pretty good actually.

Quality program Freaks and Geeks.

I saw the new Ninja Turtles cartoon and...I like it. It looks pretty good! Sure they put in some silly anime expressions here and there, but its Teenage Mutant Turtles. If this show didn't acknowledge its own sillyness it doesn't deserve the monicker.

I left the TV on when I came online. Then I heard some God-awful, screeching yelling that sounded like a bunch of drunken howler monkeys having angry sex with Alvin and the Chipmunks without lubrication.

Turns out it was Big Brother (the Finnish version). Fuckin' drunken exhibitionist wannabe celebs...

So yeah, I get the feeling this is gonna be an awesome season. That said, at the rate they're going, I really don't know how much longer they can keep the show going. It seems inevitable to me that the last season or two would be Dexter finally being outed to everyone.

It's just so cute and clever. The absurdity of the dialogue reminds me of Home Movies. I love that the hormone-driven teen girl is voiced by a deadpan guy. I love that Linda isn't the sees-all and knows-all mother that you see in so many shows about families. I identify with Gene, because I was a middle kid who adopted a new attention-getting shtick every week. And Louise is a great blend of adorable and frightening. Bob is a character I wanna root for.

I actually used this show for my grad class. We were talking about currere (the idea of reflecting on the past, thinking about what you want the future to be, putting it all together, and putting it into action (that's just in a nutshell...). The prof asked us to liken this idea to a TV show. I chose this show, because the way that Bob's kids are raised reflects how he must have been raised as the son of a restauranteur, which makes you think that he wants them to be a little free and creative like he is (although they also drive him nuts). I think of Jimmy Pesto as a warning to Bob of what a restauranteur CAN be: corny, dishonest, and more focused on profits than delivering a well-thought-out product. I think that his rival and his crazy family keeps Bob's mission in life clear in his mind at all times.

Anyway...

Why do I still watch this show?
