[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

You know what I love about Deep Space Nine?

How much FUN the writers obviously had with characters once they were established. I just love watching characters that rarely interact with each other do just that...play and work out dynamics.

Garrak is great for exercising this.

South Park is (ironically) like The Simpsons: It's getting on in years and the quality isn't always up to snuff against it's earlier seasons, but on a bad night it's still better than just about any show out there.

The fact that a waitress can afford an apartment on her own, but 2 prominent physicists need to have roommates? I know non-corporate research scientists don't make bill gates money or anything, but they sure as hell wouldn't need roommates to afford rent. It's particularly baffling on Sheldon's part as he obviously doesn't NEED a roommate as witnessed by the fact that he goes periods at a time without cashing paychecks. Given the fact that he HATES other people, he would more likely be a recluse.

I know, it's just TV, but it just occurred to me the other day how impossible the actual setup is.
I agree that Penny wouldn't be able to afford what she has, but the Sheldon/Leonard situation does make sense. Leonard is practical enough that saving money is a good thing. Sheldon? Doesn't drive and hates to take the bus. He needed someone to help him with the everyday things he feels is beneath him or he's incapable of doing for himself. He needed a chauffeur as much as anything.

And Penny has been doing okay since she had that commercial.

Sheldon's a high functioning autistic and needs someone not autistic to help him function at all. They'd never say it, but that's what that is.

A couple notes from conversations I missed earlier.

  • Malcolm in the Middle had Stevie. I'd say that this show was a younger audience demographic. They tease him and treat him just as they would anyone else. I think this is one of the more realistic portrayals of a wheelchair bound individual.
  • Started watching Brickelberry on Comedy Channel. Watched three episodes so far and there have been a few laugh out loud moments but sometimes it tries too hard to be edgy. I'd say it's okay if you have nothing else to watch but it may not be something you go out of your way to watch.
  • I'm praying Castle doesn't go all Moonlighting now that Castle and Beckett are an item. Hoping this wasn't the jumping of the proverbial shark. I mean, how far exactly can you take the premise of a writer on a murder investigation? I love the show but there's suspending disbelief and then there's Castle.

I think the absolutely best depictions of handicapped kids have been Timmy (TIMMAH!) and Jimmy on South Park. The kids aren't afraid to laugh at Timmy when they first meet him (because he IS pretty funny, if your a kid), but Timmy takes it in stride and he knows that it's just the kids getting used to him. Every time after that, Timmy is shown as just one of the guys... and they prove this by ripping on him HARD from time to time. My absolute favorite scene in South Park is when Timmy and Jimmy have the Cripple Fight.

There's a life lesson in that: Your not really treating handicapped people as equals unless your willing to treat them like absolute shit too. Even more, you not being fair unless you let THEM act like shitheads as well.

I just watched all six seasons (and some of the 7th) of Dexter in the span of a week. I...I...need to do something with my life. There's a reason I stopped watching TV.

(But I liked the show)

Just finished watching all of the Kim Possible show the other day, great show. I'd have liked another season, but I'm okay that they didn't make one.

There was also a movie "A Sitch in Time". It was pretty good. I'm not ashamed to admit that I own it on DVD. Kim Possible owns.

Almost at the end of Parks & Rec, Season 4. I think this has been the best season so far. I say that while being unable to remember my favorite episode from early in the season... but in any case, a lot of sweet moments and many great Ron Swanson moments.

I fucking love Parks and Rec! One of the funniest damn shows on TV right now. Ron Swanson is probably one of the greatest supporting characters of all time. Ron:What do you want to do hunt or fish?
Lesley: I really just want to shoot a gun right now.
Ron: Fishing it is.

Its hard to say my personal favorite of season four but I'd say the one with Tammy one, the trial of Lesley Knope, and the one with Lesley's Campaign ad.

I'm late to this party, but finished season 4.

EEEEE SHE WON!!!

And dammit, Jerry.
Hells yeah dude! Did you see any of the new season yet?

Watching the new season of 30 Rock, its really good so far. Kenneth is dating Kirsten Schaal and she is EVIL! Also my favorite quote from this season:
Tracy: Why is everybody asking me for advice? I'm married, have 3 kids, own my own studio! Oh my god...I'm the most stable adult here.

Or Kitchen Nightmares Finland, down to the standing knife for the letter I and the host being stylized to resemble Gordon Ramsay (spoilered for size):

To be honest, I got what I expected: a blander version of the better original. Maybe it's just a matter of mentality, but Finns just don't go for bursts of homicidal rage, tears of joy and pitiful weeping when it comes to those big moments (eg. being told the food is crap, the reveal of the new design etc.). And let's face it, Ramsay's a damn hard act to follow. Jyrki Sukula, a Finnish TV chef and author, is clearly trying to show some of the exploding Scotsman's mannerisms, but they just don't have the same force behind them.

Oh well, it's been only one episode so far. Maybe the next one's a little better.

One of the less prominent TV channels here is showing Star Trek: The Next Generation every night. I am loving this situation. Today's episode: Matter of Honor. I can't really put my finger on it, but there's something about episodes focusing on the Klingons that I really love. Maybe it's the fact that they are an entire damn race of scenery-chewers :D I have the same kind of guilty pleasure with Ferengi-heavy episodes of DS9. I can't give a rat's ass about the main plot, just give me Klingons and Ferengi, and I'll be happy.

Worf is not included, although. Not before he stops being everyone's bitch in DS9.

Dude, Worf once got owned by a frickin' railing.

Saying that an alien is awesome because it can kick Worf's ass is like saying it is awesome because it can pick up a boiled egg.

I caught up on a little Modern Family and Parks & Rec, and they're both still super funny and also hit me in the feels and made me tear up on a couple occasions.

I don't remember season 4 of Scrubs being this limp. I feel like my wife and I are dragging through it, waiting for it to pick up. And I know it does; I remember stuff that happens later on. I'm just wondering why none of it is happening yet.

Was in my living room reading Preacher volume 8 with the TV on, I think Fairly Oddparents was on. And then...Monster High. That show made my eyes hurt.
