Was in my living room reading Preacher volume 8 with the TV on, I think Fairly Oddparents was on. And then...Monster High. That show made my eyes hurt.
The toys are fascinating to me so I'm very curious about the show.
I should also state that the toys fascinate me because they have sexualized classic horror monsters, thus making them desirable in the eyes of the younger female audience. I'm curious as to the goal.
You guys think I'm joking about the husband=cardassian thing.
It's actually enlightening to me. I remember being DEEPLY attracted to Garak back when the show was on the air...and now I've gone and married someone like that. Has anyone ever done a psychological study on the media watched in youth affecting partner choices in the future?

The show is basically a more dramatized version of "Gravedale High". I find the fact that this show is so fucking serious ridiculous as this idea in the 80s was originally a parody of pop-culture, and now it is a staple part of pop-culture. From the awful two episodes I saw today it also seemed to have this really forced tolerance message. It...it was almost too much to bear. I would've turned off the TV but its one of those awful shows where you NEED to see it through to the end in order to prove you can sit through any mental torture.
And as for the series being a fetishizing of classic monsters, I would like to say its basic societal evolution. As tales of horrifying beasts have gone on for centuries they lose their original horrifying charm, and the more characters based on they more anthropomorphized over time they end up seeming attractive either from a sexual stand-point or just because they think they are cool. Ever hear of the Neko-mata? Horrifying cat monster that breathed fire and ressurected the damn dead. Now, its the biggest fetish character in Japan.
It is this anthropomorphizing that makes the series a success (no matter how awful it is). What are monsters? Different and misunderstood. Who feels different and misunderstood? EVERYONE! The story writes its damn self! Throw in some bull-shit message about tolerance and friendship every couple of episodes, and you'll keep the kiddies watching for as long as possibles. They characters just try so OBNOXIOUSLY to be relatable its awful, but hey it works.

I think the problem with the show is that it falls into the same pitfalls of being a vapid, contrived mess that basically every show aimed at girls before MLP: Friendship is Magic was. The characters have no depth and thus can't play off each other in any meaningful way. This is because the show was committee designed by people trying to sell toys instead of writers trying to tell a compelling story (which will MAKE kids want the toys). Ironically, this seems pointless because the toys are already a hit. Also, the animation sucks.
The central issue of the show seems to be that the Monsters have to go to different schools because normal humans don't want them near their kids. Considering some of the insane bullshit we saw some of these monster kids do (shooting lightning and ice, attacking people with carnivorous fish, hypnotizing people, trapping people in stone, summoning monsters with potions, mentions of scaring "normies" for fun), doesn't this seem completely justified? It's sort of like the whole Mutant Registration thing: If we're willing to register people who own guns, why is it wrong to keep track of people who can control your mind or melt your face with a thought? The fact that they didn't choose to have this power doesn't change the fact that they can use it. The entire premise of the show is FLAWED from the get go!
So basically, Monster High sucks because they didn't put any sort of effort into it. Don't bother watching it.
I'm binging on Fringe, and currently am near the last leg of season 1. So far it's cool, if one of the grossest shows I've ever seen. Some of the mysteries are just...ugh.
I'm all caught up on Adventure Time. I was so inspired, I got my brother to record a duet of "Remember You." It was fun! Can't wait for the next season.
I also finished last season of The Walking Dead, finally. Enjoyed the finale, but
so sad about Dale dying. I love Dale.
I also watched all of Sherlock on Netflix. Sherlock's phone call to Watson made me cry,
and although I know the real ending of The Final Problem, I kind of thought that they'd keep Moriarty around a bit longer. He was such a disturbing villain. I knew that Doyle's original plan was for Sherlock to be killed off in that story, so I wasn't sure if they were ending the series or if he was going to come back. I got the sense he was coming back when Watson was talking to his headstone. When I saw him behind the trees, I was so excited! Now to wait for Season 3... oh the pain!

Saw the season finale of Adventure Time...holy shit. THIS BOUT TO GET CRAY CRAY! Regular Show's new season is really funny, and I like the intern Thomas.
I spent about 2 1/2 hours yesterday live tweeting as I watched the first 7 episodes of Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated Season 2. I have no idea why Cartoon Network showed all 14 episodes of the show at 2 pm on weekdays without promoting them or even changing their line-up from Tom and Jerry on guides. This is literally the best incarnation of the series ever and I feel like it should have aired on adultswim considering all the shit that flew past the censors. Sex jokes, Velma and Marcy are "close", Fred is a creepy stalker guy towards Daphne. I've never laughed so hard.
8 episodes into this season of Sons of Anarchy and it's finally tying together some of the absolutely floundering plot threads that have been plaguing this season. Best episode of the season so far.
I saw the first ten minutes of an ep of Iron Man Armored Adventures. I didn't think it was possible, but teen Tony Stark seems even MORE of a douche than normal Tony Stark. Not sure if I'll like it or not.
