What If...? Season 2 (first two episodes so far)

Fun show, as usual. Nothing that really needs to be taken seriously since the chances it'll be canon is slim. First episode was basically "What if Nebula was in Blade Runner?" and was okay, if a bit dry. Not a strong first episode for the second season, but not terrible.

Second episode was more fun, though, taking place in the 80s. So we get a different Avengers team made up of characters who would have been around at that time. I love when they do stuff like that, honestly. It's always a fun surprise to see who they uses.

Only minor gripe is for all the references they made to the 80s in the episode, it was anachronistic to use a Sony Walkman that played music without headphones. As far as I know, there was never a Walkman back then that had built-in speakers. It's a REALLY minor, petty gripe, I admit, but it bugged me.

I had a walkman with built in speakers in... 88 or 89. I assume an "80s" episode will have taken place earlier, but they did exist somewhere along the line.

Huh, okay. I never saw one with that feature growing up, so I thought it wasn't a thing. I honestly had no idea. I didn't think any Walkman had built-in speakers.

At my gf's prodding, I've started watching Yellowstone.

This is.... what if the writer for "Bonanza!" was an angry drunk that hated his kids? This is what would have been.

It's apparently pretty popular for something airing over the basic channels. And by that I mean I don't know anyone who has ever actually watched it, let alone enough of it to form an opinion on it.

My in-laws really like it.
I ... pretty much hate every character, and slogged through the first season just to have something to talk about on the phone with them.

It’s someone’s attempt at injecting “Game of Thrones” style intrigue into a modern cowboy setting. Only the someone has no fucking talent at writing.

It's like it was specifically tailored to try to reinforce the rugged individualist cowboy myth in modern times and it's a bit... Much.

But troubled cowboys reluctantly doing grim things gets her off.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's been "...eehhhhhhh..." on Yellowstone. I've had people I've know try to sell me on it, but I just can't get into it.

I only like my Kevin Costner if he's Crash Davis or Robin Hood*. Maybe some Silverado.
(*I like Prince of Thieves in a "So Bad It's Good Nostalgia"-way. And I never get tired of Alan Rickman eating every piece of scenery.)

Finished the first season of Deep Space Nine, MAN that was a heavy as all hell finale.

I'm told it took a while for it to get good, but I was honestly impressed with the first season, definitely more put together than the first season of TNG, BUT admittedly that's because TNG was the stepping stone TO this.

Near the end of Next Generation and...Wesley...becomes a Time god I guess? I mean...that's ONE way to bookend his character I guess. Granted it at least goes all the way back to season one with it, but it was still weird.

I hated that episode. He should have just gone off to Star Fleet Academy and never come back. Got his own gig on a different ship or something.

Agreed, I thought they were setting up having him figure out he'd want to be an Engineer or something but then "BLA BLA BLA-I'm an alien pretending to be a space Pueblo, BE A TIME GOD!"

The ep set up the Macquis at least, but still.

It completely killed the character, really. The Watchers are, power wise, somewhere around the level of the Q or the Prophets. Any way to return is either a deus ex machina, or a depowerment, or... Ugh.
There were a dozen ways to write him out without permanently screwing the character. Yet another way they handled Nog and Jake better.

I'm only 2 seasons into DS9 and I know all ready know Nog and Jake's arc will be infinitely better. Honestly, Wesley's quitting of Starfleet felt like it was TRYING to be when Jake said he didn't want to enlist, but unearned because for Wesley the last we saw of him was him trying to rebuild his reputation, then SKIP two seasons and he's all "Fuck this shit I'm out."

It's been almost twelve years since I read the first book, but I'm digging the Percy Jackson series on Disney+. The characters actually look like they're in middle school and not twenty-something college students.

I was unsure about some of the race lifting (I was picturing Kathleen Kennedy demanding, "put in a chick and make her gay!" However, Rick Riordan gave it his seal of approval so I'm not complaining.

Me: I really like this show. I should take my time with it. Space out the episodes. Maybe watch one a day or something.

Also me: BINGE IT! Binge it! Binge it! Bingeitbingeitbingeitbingeitbingeitbingeitbingeitbingeitbingeitbingeitbingeitbingeit!

(This was me recently with Blue Eye Samurai, and currently Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. If you haven't seen Blue Eye Samurai, holy shit, you NEED to watch it. Just thank me later.)

I hear that, I try to half binge stuff so I can truly absorb it most of the time, but damn if its not tempting.

Starting Voyager and MAN...they did not need to make a new character in Tom Paris as he was CLEARLY supposed to be Nick Locarno.

I know they did it because they felt Nick was unredeemable, but I dunno.

Tom Paris is Nick Locarno. They just didn't want to pay the writer of the Locarno episode royalties.

To the point that they literally make fun of it during Lower Decks and have Locarno be a villain played by the same dude.

Yeah I HAD to figure it was more than the bullshit "Nick wasn't redeemable" story, thank ya.
