[TV] The What Anime Are You Watching Thread!

The most unbelievable part of Log Horizon isn't that they ended up in a real version of the game world. It's that only one female character was being played by a dude.

Ranma 1/2 About 30 episodes in I think. This show is funny! Surprisingly so. It's not just the stiff jokes a lot of so called comedy anime have. These jokes are actually funny. Also, honestly, Ranma's supposed curse is anything but. Oh woe is me, I can turn into an attractive girl. Boo hoo. I'm...

    TIL: Today I Learned

TIL that a number of classic D&D monsters were taken from a set of 1970s plastic toys manufactured in Hong Kong from monster designs from the original Ultraman show from Japan. That includes the owlbear and the rust monster. Source...

[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

Dark This show is frankly awesome. Do yourself a favor and watch it. It has a Stranger Things feel to it if you like that sort of thing, but the narrative is better. It's about a small town and time travel that can connect every 33 years. I can't say much more than that without spoiling. One...

Neon Genesis Evangelion / The End of Evangelion Want a show about teenagers piloting giant robots to fight aliens? Too bad, you get one about the ravages of depression, with a side helping of parental issues, relationship problems, sexuality confusion, and anger management problems. I'm not...

The Random Crap Thread 2: It Hits the Fan.

When I was younger, I used to accept cartoon characters with round eyes and centered pupils without question. Now they just look surprised to me. Especially if the face tends toward realistic. It's one of the reasons I'm not a big fan of Squirrel Girl's art. They all look so surprised all the time.

[Movies] The DC Cinematic Universe - The David Zazlav Dumpster Fire.

I mean, villain transformations are often portrayed as positive for the villain. Doesn't seem particularly unique to this movie. It reminds me of what Phillip K Dick said about A Scanner Darkly. He portrayed drugs as pleasurable because they are. People wouldn't do them if they weren't. A...

[Movies] The DC Cinematic Universe - The David Zazlav Dumpster Fire.

I'm not sure I agree. There are reams of good literature and reels upon reels of good movies that give motivations to villains without compromising the fact that they are in fact evil. You could easily motivate a horrific psychopath with a "there but for the grace of God" type story. I could...

[Movies] The DC Cinematic Universe - The David Zazlav Dumpster Fire.

So I caught up on all the DC movies finally. I actually didn't think they were as bad as the internet made them out to be. (GASP Fade didn't hate something). MoS was not awful. I mean yeah, he could've been more boyscout, but it wasn't the worst. BvS was silly, but still watchable. I liked...

I've seen it a lot, but why is everyone saying the trailers are bait and switch? What's the evidence for that? I can't think of any parallel cases to go on, and I certainly know nothing about the movie beyond the trailers at this point.

Funny Pictures Thread. It begins again

I remember back in the pre-YouTube days, Odd Todd's Laid Off was a great show. He got picked up for a pilot by Comedy Central. He was gone for a while, then make a new episode basically saying "things didn't work out at Comedy Central". Same kind of deal. It worked as a one-man show, but died...

I'm going to start a blog where I take 90% of the Arduino projects online and replace the $35 Arduino with a $0.02 transistor. I'm happy people are excited about hobby electronics and all, but it's kind of funny how many projects use a whole microprocessor where a simple transistor will do. Or...

Aliexpress is to me as Steam is to other people. I have a backlog of component parts I haven't used let. "Ooo what does this IC do? Neat. But practically, when will I ever need to do that? Never? Yeah, I was also pretty mixed on this. They changed a good number of plot points from the books, especially concerning Compound V and the fact that . But all in all, frankly, I thought the books were pretty bad, and the show was a rare case of the derived material being better than the source...
