    Games on SALE!

Meh. Civilization is one of those games that seems more like a job than a game to me. Management simulation doesn't strike me as particularly fun.

    The Dream Thread

I had a dream that I was on a bus, only the windshield was boarded over so I couldn't see out. The driver was down below us in a cockpit type thing, and I could only get occasional glimpses out his window. It was pre-dawn, and I could make out tropical trees in a storm. When we finally stopped...

Actually, one of the biggest problems with this transition is that Scott Grimes's character feels out of place. We know he can do drama having been on the cast of one of the most dramatic network shows of all time (ER). Maybe they let his character grow.

I caught up on season 2 of The Orville. If you thought this show had rough edges, but could see the potential in season one, I definitely urge you to check out season two. In true trek fashion, this show grew the beardiest of beards. Seriously, the writing has vastly improved, and I didn't think...

The Random Crap Thread 2: It Hits the Fan.

I have an ethical conundrum (though probably the government will resolve it whether I like it or not). Here you file for unemployment every two weeks, but you enter the income you got on a weekly basis. I did this, and since I'm now employed, I was denied (as expected) for one week and paid for...

I'm still enjoying Orville. The second season has matured a lot. I've actually read they did reshoots and rewrites when they realized they had some good stories. Less MacFarlane goofiness, even in the episodes he writes. The episode "Nothing Left on Earth Except the Fishes" was quite good.

I also meant to add that the one real knock I had against Spider-Man was the Kingpin character design. It was goofy, and felt out of place in the rest of the designs.

I got Breakthrough also. Gag. So what about all the kids who fall through the ice and don't survive despite their parents faithfully praying and surrendering themselves to their faith?

Whine like a baby, now with 500% more drama!

I hate writing job offer rejection letters. Feels like a breakup letter. "Dear John, Inc.: It's not me, it's you."

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Whoa. 12/10 Just whoa. Really one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Visually amazing. Spectacular. See this in the theater if you can.

    Minor victory thread

I am once again employed. Got several job offers, but went with a nice startup with a good bit of funding. They gave me a better package than the last job I had, so I am pretty happy. The paid time off is "unlimited" like Google.

The loss of individuality theme plays out often in the movie, with Bateman called "Marcus", "Smith", and "Davis" variably, and the identical lobbies in the murder spree scene. Or the argument over business card that are nearly the same. The writer says she understood it that the lawyer just...

    Movie News & Miscellany

To be clear, I liked the movie, and I understand that it covered a lot of cultural aspects that deserve greater coverage. I believe all of this, yet I still feel that other, better films cover that. Not enough, to be sure. But on sheer filmmaking...I could swap any marvel hero and their setting...

    Movie News & Miscellany

I don't understand Black Panther getting a nomination for best picture. It was no better or worse than any of the other marvel movies. If this is a diversity nomination, I'm fine with that, too...as long as the movie is both good and a good example of diversity. I don't think this movie is...

[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

I rewatched American Psycho this weekend. According to the writer and co-writer, the ending was not meant to be ambiguous about whether or not Bateman actually committed the murders. They say it was never in question to them, and they would rework the ending if they could to make that clearer...

I know I cannot speak for everyone, of course, but like the Starbucks cup situation, I have seen far more people talking about the "not all men" comments than I have actual "not all men" comments.

Neverwinter is fully voiced, which makes for some funny/awkward moments. Like when the NPCs in a graveyard tell you desperately that you need to get rid of all the whites. Racists.

    Funny (political, religious) pictures

I can only say what I've seen. Never had any issues, and I've been with them for years. This summer I drove from TX to SC and back and never lost signal. That's through some really rural areas, too. I know back 10-15 years ago, T-Mobile was the Discover Card of cell networks, and I was iffy on...
