    Minor victory thread

I've had this slight idea for years to play a bard who played the 1-man-band.

Delayed again for "unspecified" reasons until Saturday: https://www.clickorlando.com/news/space-news/test-fire-of-spacex-falcon-heavy-rocket-moves-to-saturday

Funny Pictures Thread. It begins again

If it wasn't likely in the USA, I'd say GO SEE A DOCTOR RIGHT NOW!!! That kind of thing should NOT be common enough for such a thing.

    Rant VIII: The Reckoning

Umm.... why? What makes it illegal to hear about somebody applying to your company, and going to HR saying "Don't hire them because of reasons x, y, z." And if x, y, z are under an NDA (or related) you can say THAT. "I can't say why because of NDA, but I would watch for warning signs j, k, l"

As with many things though, they also have to be seen by the "right" people.

Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

Sure, that's possible, but I'd be betting against it. Remember, the whole "diplomatic immunity" (and related) thing is rarely violated. Even during the Iranian Revolution in '79, while "students" stormed the US embassy, most/all of the others were left intact. The government itself didn't...

Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

Latest chapter in this saga: WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange gets Ecuador citizenship after 5 years living in embassy They mention it briefly in the article, but this is "the juicy part" of the article IMO: Even without Britain's "approval" I wonder what would happen if they just "did it" and then...

I didn't watch that show, so thanks for the info.

    [Food] Crowdsourced bbq sauce

Onion Powder (or chopped onions that you sautee as part of the cook) and garlic powder (same as before) are also super-common IMO. And I swear this isn't terrible, and ends up amazing: cranberry jelly. Recipe is at home, but it works amazingly as your sweet and sour components.

    Minor victory thread

;) I noticed my error and stealth-edited it. You're right, cantrips don't trigger it, but 1st-level spells do, and as Bubble said, Mage Armor is a 1st-level spell, and honestly, just as (if not more) plausible. And you're right too that the DM controls when they roll the d20: Note that it's...

    Minor victory thread

10 minutes? How about 30 seconds? First encounter, all lvl 1 characters Sorcerer: I cast Mage Armor on myself! DM: OK, do that, and then roll a separate d20 and a d100 Sorcerer: I rolled a 1 on the d20, and a 7 on the d100 DM: OK, the d20 means you had a Wild Magic Surge. The 7 on the d100...

Just facepalm: Taiwanese Police Give Cyber-security Quiz Winners Infected Devices Odds on not being a mistake? I mean only those who are GOOD at security can possibly blow through the locks, so therefore we have to trace/track those who are interested in it... right? Either extreme...

Whine like a baby, now with 500% more drama!

I need extra freezing when I go to the dentist, and it sometimes needs an extra application partway through, so I hear ya. OTOH a single regular plain-old Benadryl will usually put me right to sleep. Like half an hour, LIGHTS OUT. @Dirona can attest to this.

    TIL: Today I Learned

Pfft. Freaking casuals. Talk to me when you are sub-90. (I'm not kidding about the sub-90 part. No joke, my best time (back in the day) was 67 for 99 mines. I'm kind of a freak that way)

    The Tech Random Crap Thread

Neat idea from Razer at CES: Razer’s Project Linda imagines a laptop dock for the Razer Phone Image: Honestly, not a terrible idea IMO. Probably never make it to market, but I like the general idea. I think integrating it as the touchpad is actually kinda genius (in the good way I mean)...

Space stuff (NASA, UKSA, CSA, ESA, etc)

Some reports that the satellite may be dead. SpaceX says that everything went fine on their end. Because classified though, we may never know. https://arstechnica.com/science/2018/01/the-zuma-satellite-launched-by-spacex-may-be-lost-sources-tell-ars/

    The Tech Random Crap Thread

Fair enough, though if you read through the PDF itself, it's "less bad" than the Intel vulnerability. Same "type" of attack, but getting the information out is MUCH harder. Not impossible, but it's a lot slower.

    The Tech Random Crap Thread

Please link that, as the tech paper (pdf link) on the main site says specifically: They got a toy example working to show there are effects of speculative execution (ie: Spectre), but that's not the same as leaking kernel memory, which is Meltdown. Please link an article mentioning...
