Been a LONG time since I saw this. I didn't even get the other ones until you posted it.

It isn't that it's new math. It's just the simplest form of perimeter. And I know this makes it easier for kids who haven't learned perimeter yet, plus it's practice adding fractions. I just hate trying to tell my teary-eyed child that he's not wrong when I sound like I'm saying he is wrong anyway.
