    Minor victory thread

Hah, that's more of a 1/week for me, I love steel cut oats the way mine makes 'em. Thought about buying an instant pot last Black Friday, but I'd want to keep both appliances--I still want rice/quinoa/oatmeal/lentils when I make $other_dish, yannow :P I'd also be surprised if a 20-in-one could...

    Minor victory thread

Eaten my fair share, what with using my rice cooker 5 times a week on average, but recently been doing runny coddled eggs instead and man... Much easier to fit 2-3 eggs in your bowl (more than one in my tamagohan makes it a bit too snotty for my taste), and the taste is somewhat better (IMO)...

Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

That's so shitty. A third of my current dev team are parents to young children (newborns to teenagers and everything in-between), and you best believe that their children are part of our routines. They work harder because it's OK that they have to drive the 7 year old to the dentist and then...

All your guns are belong in this thread.

Don't think that's the sort of protection you want, then--or, if it is, it's way overpriced. You'd want the sort of body armor that's meant to (just) absorb blunt trauma, not dissipate piercing projectiles. Might want to look into making a shield... Aircraft aluminum, recycled street signs, or...

All your guns are belong in this thread.

Are you trying to conceal carry the body armor? Plate carriers (and plates) are harder to hide AFAIK. However, they're also way more versatile, since you can upgrade/add plates piecemeal to fit your needs. A ballistic backpack (i.e. one you can fit a plate inside of to use as a shield/chest...

I have the same brain grumble with track/pavement running. I tend to do all my running in trails and parks (or did, back when I went outside in the before-times), so there's pretty nature to look at. Plus, the added challenge of uneven terrain is fun. Audiobooks and podcasts are also great for...

Got a good bunch of it personally as part of my STEMlord degree. Philosophy 101, American Government, Critical Thinking, and Ethics in Computer Science. "Humanistic" university, though.

Hey now, give them time. I know it's still paltry when you adjust per capita, but Modi is trying his best to catch up!

To NAS or not to NAS, that is the question.

+1 for TP-Link. I have an AC4000, and it fits our house well (2-story, 4 users that are constantly connected with multiple devices each doing bandwidth-intensive stuff).

Whine like a baby, now with 500% more drama!

Might want to try a mobile text-only browser, like e.g. Browsor. No JS/images cuts out most of the shit, and once you know enough cooking it's not like you want/need the prep photos most of the time.

Yeah, though they had to partially walk it back: "leading Democrats" will be briefed tomorrow morning. Gives Repubs a bit of extra time to polish their gosh golly gee's.

    Random Video Game Crap

Doesn't matter how (un)usual it is in current-year--videogames are rife with roided-looking protagonists and there isn't an uproar about muh immersion. The idea that most men can become that swole without a specialized diet and large time/effort commitments is about as dumb as the idea that...

Netflix, we need to have a chat about 13 Reasons Why

Maybe you weren't the average 13 year old, dunno. I was more... pliable (?) as a young kid, and probably would've benefited from literally any parental oversight on my browsing/media consumption habits. Dunno which one of us veers closer to a typical mind (neither?) but I've always modeled...

Netflix, we need to have a chat about 13 Reasons Why

I'm glad they confided into the wiretap instead of a plushie, on the off-chance something bad might've happened. Dunno what the right thing to do would be. Stumbling on the wrong kind of media at too young and age had both good and bad impact on myself, speaking as someone that started...

New PETure Thread (aka: Pet Pic Thead)

My cat has a knack for looking and acting... Unsettling? Anyway, pretty often we'll crop her out of pictures to use as reactions, because she's great. Here's some highlights from this week so far: hungy -screams internally- Gʀᴇᴇᴛɪɴɢs, ᴛʀᴀᴠᴇʟᴇʀ! Dᴏsᴛ ᴛʜᴏᴜ ʙʀɪɴɢᴇᴛʜ ᴍᴇ ᴛʜᴇ ᴇssᴇɴᴄᴇ ᴏғ ғʀᴏsᴛ I...

[TV] The What Anime Are You Watching Thread!

I need to get around to watching the show, but I binged the manga in March and it was a lovely read. Heavily recommended, the style is... Organic and messy? Like Tsutomu Nihei (Blame!, Knights of Sidonia, ...) but without the architectural drawings in the background.

Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

CNN: Ahmaud Arbery was hit with a truck before he died, and his killer allegedly used a racial slur, investigator testifies I just finished listening to part of the hearing on the background, and the headline/contents are accurate. The investigation turned up a lot of scummy shit on these guys.
